W przypadku architektury powojennego modernizmu największym zagrożeniem dla budowli jest brak świadomości ich wartości estetycznych czy historycznych. Remonty zachowawcze są właściwie niepodejmowane, budynki zużyte technicznie albo się rozbiera, albo przebudowuje i modernizuje, z reguły pozbawiając je cech stylowych. Trend świadomego ratowania budowli z tego okresu poprzez ich adaptację do nowych funkcji dopiero się zaczyna i stanowi jak na razie jedynie marginalne zjawisko w nurcie fascynacji postindu-strialnej, brak natomiast świadomych decyzji konserwatorskich.

Modernist architecture of the 1920s and 1930s brought about many functional and constructional innovations, but thanks to its forms and spatial solutions it can be readily adapted to new functions. Housing architecture, specially of luxurious town tenements and elegant villas can still satisfy the requirements of even the most fussy users; buildings once raised to serve as offices can easily continue to be used. In Poland many buildings have been 'reclassified', e.g. the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) complex in Warsaw has been transformed into a hospital, and performance halls of the former Catholic organizations have been used by real theatres. Unfortunately, certain types of buildings have completely disappeared in Poland, for instance the pre-World War II petrol stations. Therefore, it is necessary to apply preservation privileges not only to the Modernism of the 1920s and 1930s, but also to its post-World War II examples, if only to a modest but carefully selected range of buildings, before it is too late, before we realise that all of them have ceased to exist.
