DC motor excited by permanent magnets is described in the paper. The prototype of the motor was designer and manufactured in KOMEL Centre using components of manufactured by Komel DC rnotors with electromagnetic excitation. When PM excitation was implemented it was possible to obtain a motor size132mm of output 6,5 kW (1409 rpm), while motor with electromagnetic excitation of the output 5,5 kW is160mm size. The paper explains the design process, shows results of the laboratory tests of the prototype motor and indicates advantages of the new motor. It is stated that Komel Centre is ready to manufacture a wide range of DC motors excited by permanent magnets.
