The facades of palaces of justice (not always intentionally) reflect the meaning attributed to those buildings. Judicial pride aims to immortalize power, administrative efficiency and humanistic openness here gains a specific expression. Despite the fact that justice procedures seem difficult and obscure, one of the fundamental principles of a fair trial is the principle of democratic transparency of proceedings, embodied strongly in the architecture of constitutional courts.

W projektach fasad pałaców sprawiedliwości (nie zawsze intencjonalnie) odzwierciedlają się znaczenia, przypisywane tym gmachom. Swoistą ekspresję uzyskują tu pycha dążącej do unieśmiertelnienia władzy, administracyjna efektywność i humanistyczna otwartość. Pomimo, że procedury wymiaru sprawiedliwości wydają się trudne i niejasne, jedną z podstawowych zasad uczciwego procesu jest zasada demokratycznej przejrzystości postępowania, ucieleśniana najsilniej w architekturze sądów konstytucyjnych.

Hedonizm jako motywacja działalności twórczej w architekturze? Zdaje się, że to niemożliwe. Być może to jednak kwestia definicji. Rzecz wydaje się mniej oczywista jeśli przyjmiemy, że hedonizm jest filozofią twórczą mającą na celu dążność do szczęścia, eudajmonię. Nasz cyniczny wiek nie pozwala na przyznawanie się do dążenia ku wyższym sensom egzystencji. Być może poszukiwanie własnego szczęścia poprzez twórczość wystarcza dla osiągnięcia maksymalizacji dobra w świecie? Artykuł proponuje krótki przegląd postaw wobec profesji architekta od Witruwiusza po dzień dzisiejszy.

Hedonism as the driving force behind the architectural practice? It seems impossible. But, perhaps, it is only the question of how to define hedonism. Assuming that hedonism is just the idea, that in architectural creation one should aim at obtaining some happiness it can prove less extravagant. Our cynical age does not irwite higher feelings, striving for perfection or virtue. Perhaps looking for fulfillment in artistic creativity could work as the beneficial factor in our culture. The article depicts briefly the attitudes towards the architectural profession from Vitruvius till today.

The paper considers the ubiquitous problem of mimesis in architecture, conceived as repetition of forms, details and facades invented for certain types of buildings in functionally different architecture. This phenomenon is not only the imitation of examples, which was present in architectural history as well as today, but chaotic play of forms borrowed from all possible sources. It may result in decay of signification of architectural forms.
