The object of the studies was to determine the effect of leading of various additives to different molecular masses (Mw = 250000 and Mw = 700000) Na-CMC aqueous solutions on the change of rheological properties of these solutions. The additives studied were sodium sulphate, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium carbonate, potassium ferricyanide and ferrocyanide, sodium hydroxide as potentially useful in electrochemical technique. It has been shown that the presence of salt in a solution causes the decrease of consistency index and the increase of flow behaviour index as well as leads to better stabilization of solution (what results probably from the biodegradation slowing down a polymer studied). Additionally in the solutions of this type the electrochemical process has been carried out. No effect of the passage of current on rheological properties has been observed.

In this paper a number of flow experiments in curved tubes with aqueous solutions of the both, cationic and anionic, surface-active agents are presented. It has been shown that taking into account the flow criterion for power-law fluids by Metzner and Reed in the definition of modified Dean number for curved tube is more correct than the use of Reynolds number for clear solvent. The drag reduction in the coils was observed not only in the turbulent flow, but also in the pseudolaminar one. It has been stated that the curvature effect on friction factor for surfactant solutions exists below the critical value of modified Dean number. The value of is higher than this one characteristic for the clear solvent, and linearly increases when geometric modulus decreases.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań eksperymentalnych oceny zjawisk przepływowych w mieszalnikach przy wykorzystaniu pomiarów zmian przewodnictwa elektrolitycznego roztworów wodnych i konduktometru CX—731. Wykazano, że zwiększenie liczby mieszadeł na wale do dwóch pozwala uzyskać lepsze warunki hydrodynamiczne, zmiana liczby mieszania w zależności od liczby Reynoldsa jest nieznaczna.

In the paper the results of the experimental studies performed for the evaluation of flow phenomena in mixers using the conductometer CX-731 and the method of changes in electrolytic conductivity of aqueous solutions have been presented. It has been shown that the multiplication of the agitators mounted on common drive shaft permits to obtain better hydrodynamical conditions and for two agitators the change of mixing number related to the Reynolds number is negligible. Key words: mixing time, effect of agitator number, electrochemical method
