For years, public institutions have been characterized by a complex and specific structure that requires the applications of bureaucratic procedures that are in accordance with the law and the professional preparations of officials. Nowadays, public institutions have high requirements for implementing intelligent IT systems, which allow the handling of documents in electronic form and the automatic flow of the information that is contained in them. This article presents a set of business processes that have been implemented in a public institution (dealing with the implementation of tasks in agricultural and food markets) that was performed in the BPMN notation. In addition to a description of the system, the article presents the positive impact of the implementation on the work of the authority. The article presents how business-process modeling and simulation support an enterprise in creating an integrated information-processing system. It concludes with a presentation of the effects and changes that have occurred in the authority following the implementation of a business-process-management system.

Zasadniczym celem niniejszego artykułu jest identyfikacja znajomości przez studentów możliwości wykorzystania zarządzania procesowego w usprawnianiu działań organizacji. Badanie przeprowadzono na pierwszym i ostatnim roku studiów na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim, co pozwoliło ocenić wpływ realizacji programu studiów na wzrost świadomości tych możliwości. Badania wykonano za pomocą metody CAWI. Przygotowaną do tego celu ankietę najpierw zweryfikowano z udziałem ekspertów z dziedziny modelowania procesów biznesowych, a następnie udostępniono studentom do wypełnienia na serwerach Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego. Badania pokazały, że zainteresowanie zarządzaniem procesowym wśród studentów rozpoczynających naukę na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim nie jest zbyt wysokie, a pojawiające się nowości w tym zakresie nie są im znane. Kluczowy z punktu widzenia Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego jest fakt, że ponad 90% studentów podstawowe informacje o zarządzaniu procesowym zdobyła na uczelni, dzięki czemu znakomicie radzi sobie z wykorzystaniem go w pracy zawodowej. Najbardziej znaczącą i budującą informacją jest ta, że ponad 35% badanych studentów Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego w pracy zawodowej wykorzystuje zarządzanie procesowe. Zrealizowane badanie miało swoje ograniczenia - zostało przeprowadzone tylko na dwóch wydziałach uniwersyteckich. Rekomendacją jest to, aby studenci samodzielnie uzupełniali swoje zainteresowania wiedzą, która niemal gwarantuje im późniejsze zatrudnienie oraz świadczy o ich zrozumieniu i nowoczesnym podejściu do interpretacji zjawisk gospodarczych. Na podstawie badań zostało dowiedzione, że pomimo średniej wiedzy studentów na temat zarządzania procesowego uznają je oni za niezbędne do wykorzystania w przyszłej pracy.

The main objective of this article is to identify students’ awareness of the possibilities of using process management in improving organisational operations. The study was conducted in the first and final year of study at the University of Warsaw, which simultaneously allowed for a comparison of the impact of the implementation of the study programme on the increase in awareness of these possibilities. The research was carried out using the CAWI method. The questionnaire prepared for this purpose was first validated with experts in the field of business process modelling and then made available to students for completion on the University of Warsaw servers. The research showed that interest in process management among students entering the University of Warsaw is not very high, and emerging innovations in this field are not known. What is crucial from the point of view of the University of Warsaw is the fact that more than 90% of the students gained basic information about process management at the university, so they excel at using it in their professional work. The most significant and encouraging information is that more than 35% of the surveyed students at the University of Warsaw use process management in their professional work. The completed study had its limitations – it was conducted in only two university departments. The recommendation is that the students themselves complement their interests with knowledge that almost guarantees their later employment and demonstrates their understanding and modern approach to the interpretation of economic phenomena. On the basis of the research, it was proven that despite the students’ average knowledge of process management, they consider it essential for use in their future work.
