Based on a series of the computational, theoretical and experimental investigations the data on losses of high-frequency built-in electrical drive of a two-stage refrigeration centrifugal compressor on gas-dynamic bearings, with refrigerating capacity 32 kW have been obtained. The effectiveness of different methods of refrigeration of the drive has been determined; gas-dynamic characteristics of low-size stages with the impeller diameter 63 mm have been obtained; evaluation of the efficiency of a standard range of water-chilling machines with centrifugal compressor with refrigerating capacity from 20 to 60kW has been carried out.

Presented hereby are the results of the modernisation of nineteen centrifugal compressor refrigeration plants into using the ozone-safe cooling agent Rl34a. These plants arc of the typce KhTMF and TKhMV and have been manufactured by the Kazan Compressor Factory. It has been shown that the proposed method of modernisation essentially cuts losses as compared to the cost of purchasing new equipment and also as regards to the period of time necessary for this type of modemisation work. In addition, this method of modernisation ensures a significant increase in energy coefficients of the equipment.
