W artykule postawiono pytanie, dlaczego architekci w XIX wieku zdołali tak skutecznie sprostać wyzwaniu bezprecedensowej rozbudowy głównych miast europejskich. Porównano ich osiągnięcia do niedoskonałych przedsięwzięć architektów XX wieku. Tekst sugeruje, że XX-wieczna edukacja architektoniczna nie przygotowała twórców do zadań, jakie nakłada na nich przyszłość.

The article raises the question why the architects of the 19th century so successfully faced the challenge of the unprecedented enlargement of the main European cities and compares their achievements to the poor performances of the twenty century architects. The article suggests that the 20th century architecture education had not prepared the architects for the future task.

Detal architektoniczny jest jednym z elementów decydujących o charakterze budynku, jeżeli go usuniemy, charakter ten ulegnie zmianie. Niniejszy artykuł stawia pytanie o to, jakie mogą być skutki podobnego działania w większej skali: skali miasta - miasta, z którego postanowiono usunąć jeden z elementów. Przykład berlińskich lotnisk może posłużyć za pretekst do dalszych rozważań nad „skalą detalu" jako elementu odpowiadającego za - w tym przypadku traktowaną dosłownie - całą sieć powiązań.

Architectural detail is an element defining the character of a building - once removed, the character changes. This paper investigates the possible effects of the same acting in a slightly different scale - the scale of a city; the city an element of which is to be removed. The Berlin airports case may be considered a starting point for questioning the "scale" of detail, minding that a detail is an element - literally, in this case - responsible for connections.

Artykuł poświęcony jest trwałości jako podstawowemu założeniu każdego projektu o charakterze wojskowym. Opisuje projekt zespołu Kmar na terenie lotniska Schiphol, przykład przełożenia takich uwarunkowań na projekt architektoniczny. Wyjątkowość omawianego projektu polega na sposobie zorientowania i odizolowania kompleksu od niesprzyjających warunków terenu. Prezentowany obiekt to rodzaj oazy wybudowanej na wodzie.

The text considers the permanence and durability as inbuilt conditions of every military project. It describes the design of the Kmar Schiphol Airport Complex as an example of such conditions being transformed into architectural design. The uniqueness of the design lies in its self orientation and isolation from the unfavourable conditions of the site. It is a kind of oasis built on water.

W chwili obecnej miejsce pomiędzy Bramą Brandenburską a Tiergarten nie posiada żadnej określonej formy. Teren ów można przekształcić w formę architektoniczną o dużym znaczeniu przestrzenno-symbolicznym - Plac Zjednoczenia.

The celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the fall of the wall and the Reunification of Germany and the way and the location it took place, is a valid manifestation how much Berlin is in need of and enjoys its public spaces. At the present moment, the place between Brandenburg Gate and Tiergarten has no definite form. With no need for extensive work, the area can be converted into an architectural form that is spatially and symbolically meaningful - Square of Reunification.

The article responds to the present global financial crisis by analyzing the role architecture played in its downfall. It compares the present crisis to the Great Depression of the twenties of the last century and its inevitable influence on aesthetics and architecture in particular. The author suggests using this period of slowdown of building construction for the germination of new ideas.
