Longwall powered roof supports have been used to protectmine workings for over 70 years. Their designand especially technological parameters, have evolved significantly. These changes were dictated, on the one hand, by the need to meet the growing functional requirements and, on the other hand, by the increasingly difficult natural operating conditions. Conditions of interaction of the roof supportwith the surrounding rocks, which determine not only operational safety, also impactof the structural form of the roof supportand its assemblies. Powered roof support isan important part of the longwall system, not only separating the working areaof the longwall panelfrom the rocks forming the roof and the caving, but also ensuring the advanceof the longwall systemas the longwall advancesand realization of eachoperation of the technological cycle. Theneed to meet these functional requirements means that technical factors such as: the method of managing the roof of the working, height of the wall, its inclination, the method of mining and the planned advancement of the wall significantly impactsthe structural form and technical parameters of the roof support. The main purpose of this article is to present the method of modernization ofagobshield which is a parta powered longwall roof support.

Powered roof support consistsof repeatable units of support, set to load in the rock mass between the roof and the floor. Their task is acorrect protection of the working, of the machines/devices and workers. Its compact design, a big extent of the roof coverage and a unit control ensure a correct and economic operation of a longwall.Awalkway in front of the legs ensures safety and a big comfort for the working crew.Supports meet all the safety and ergonomics requirements according to the PN-EN 1804-1,2,3Standards concerning safety and ergonomics of constructions. They meet basic safety requirements for machines and components according to the 98/37/EU Directive and basic requirements for devices and protective systems to be used in the spaces where an explosion hazard occurs according to the 94/9/EU Directive as devices of Group I, M2 Category. The main objective of this article is a presentation of a repair of a powered roof support subassembly such as an advance ram.
