The paper describes the problem of waste disposal in Germany from the viewpoint of an economic unit. In case of municipal wastes it is a local self-government and relevant companies which are in question. The author presents and pays much attention to legal grounds for waste management in conjunction with the principles and the system of environmental legal instruments being in force in Germany. The policies and potential are described for efficiency rise in the sphere of municipal waste management.
