Liquid sorption is an essential property of textile fabrics as it effects the proper course of technological processes as well as wear properties of ready-made products. Sorption occurring during fabric superficial contact with wet surface is the most frequent case of liquid sorption. Yet, standardized methods of testing liquid sorption properties applied up to now in laboratories require complete immersion of tested fabric sample for which weight/mass increase rate, regarded as sorption capability coefficient, is determined. Such test conditions do not match real, wearing conditions and coefficient determined in this way does not show all pieces of information on fabric properties. The potential user is not only interested in the amount of liquid which can be absorbed by textile fabric but also in the rate (speed) of sorption process and the time of saturation occurrence. Such an evaluation can be achieved by sorption test method which during measuring gives sorption curve allowing to analyse the process of liquid sorption by tested fabric. Sorption curve is a curve presenting the dependence between the amount of absorbed liquid and time. As a result of long term research works earried out at Textile Research Institute [1,2,3,4] utilizing computer techniques, an instrument and test method have been developed allowing to determine rates of liquid sorption by textile fabrics analysing sorption curve.
