Attempts to increase the profitability of SPI work inevitably result in the necessity of increasing the degree of utilizing waste heat from exhaust gases of marine main engines (ME). This analysis of possible use of turbo-generators is based on a comparison of available heat of ME exhaust gases with expected loads of ME, steam and electrical power consumption.

Przedstawiono wpływ zanieczyszczenia osadami sadzy powierzchni wymiany ciepła wybranego kotła utylizacyjnego na jego wydajność parową i opory przepływu spalin. Otrzymane wyniki obliczeń symulacyjnych porównano z wynikami badań eksperymentalnych.

The paper demonstrates the influence of soot deposits on the heating surfaces of chosen exhaust gas boilers on the exhaust flow resistance and boiler capacity. The results of computer simulation were compared with experimental results.

It has been shown that the concept of exergue can be used in the analysis of thermo-dynamic efficiency. The concept incorporates both principles of thermodynamics. The factor of exergue efficiency is shown. The developed technique of defining the values of exergue losses occurring at the utilization of heat of internal combustion engine exhaust gases is based. The technique is based on the entropy method. The obtained dependences determining the influence of various factors have been presented as well.

The factor of thermal efficiency, used for the assessement of the use of heat in the diesel engine working cycles, has been based on the the first law of thermodynamics only. This paper indicates the fact that to achieve more comprehensive thermodynamic analyses it is necessary to use factors based on the two laws of thermodynamics. One such factor herein proposed is the exoergic efficiency. The method for the determination of this factor for the main engine is presented. Original relations involving the exoergic efficiency are set out. The factor depends on the ambient temperature.

The propelling features of ships with controlled-step screws are determined on the basis of long and expensive experimental trials, which are, however, not always possible. This concerns the general methodology and calculation programs of screw curve features of large ships when having a small number of data and comparing them with those obtained experimentally, in order to establish their accuracy. Analysis of the convergence of calculated and experimental results has been presented.

The paper presents a description of a universal technique and the program for an estimation of probability of failure-free operation of SPP sea water systems.

The operating reliability of ship auxiliary power stations (APS) is presented. The character of electric loads distribution during a voyage is also discussed. Besides, a method for the estimation of failure-free running of an APS on the basis of adopted factors is presented.
