This paper presents a detailed analysis of static relevance of the SET test intended to test the toxicity of a self-ignition engine on the basis of the 13-phase test. The engine test may be conducted on a simplified chassis test house without disassembling the engine of the vehicle. Moreover, the test may be applied in an engine test house.

The paper presents a concept of a short engine test SET that can be applied to the engines tested in vehicles without the need of their dismantling and is purposed for the evaluation of heavy duty diesels exhaust toxic compound emission. The worked out SET test could be performed on a simplified chassis dynamometer and provides results similar to those obtained by using the 13-stage ECE R49 stationary test carried out on an engine test house. Due to that the same standards of exhaust toxicity (EURO I, II, III and IV) can be applied.

W artykule przedstawiono koncepcję skróconego testu badawczego SET (Short Engine Test), który służy do oceny emisji składników toksycznych spalin silników ZS HDD (Heavy Duty Diesel) w eksploatowanych pojazdach i nie wymaga wymontowywania silnika z pojazdu. Opracowany test SET, który wykonuje się na "uproszczonej" hamowni podwoziowej, daje zbliżone wyniki z testem stacjonarnym 13-fazowym ECE R49, wykonywanym na hamowni silnikowej, i dzięki temu można stosować te same normy toksyczności spalin EURO I, II, III i IV.
