This paper comprehensively presents key issues in design of an original optoelectronic measurement device built to assess amount of suspended particulate matter. The paper is introduced with a short explanation of concerns with a suspended particulate matter, what role it has in the air quality and how it affects health of human population. Then, problems of construction of the measurement device supported by a theoretical explanation on the basis of Mie theory are discussed. Subsequently, it is followed by an analysis of the device operation both in laboratory and in real conditions. Results obtained with the presented device are compared with the professional measurement equipment and an expensive, outdoor measurement station. Paper is concluded with observations of differences in spatio-temporal PM change at very close but significantly different city locations.

In this paper, some issues of building a reliable, distributed measurement system for monitoring of water quality in reservoir Lake Dobczyckie are presented. The system is based on a measurement station that has the shape of a floating buoy which is supposed to be at anchor on the reservoir. Wireless data transmission problems that were encountered during the development of the buoy, modeling a radio link, and measurements of actual signal strength on the reservoir are discussed. A mathematical approach to procedures of early situation assessment was conducted, and specialized procedures were designed for measurement stations of the system. It is also discussed how such computations can improve a qualitative assessment of system performance in terms of real-time messaging.

System ten jest efektem przemyśleń autorów na podstawie wieloletnich doświadczeń zawodowych w tym zakresie.

The article describes the structure, elements and operating method of a Microsoft Access electronic hierarchical data- base developed with a view to launch an efficient information system for managing the data of an electric power substation. The system is a result of the authors' analyses based on many years of professional experience in this matter.
