Purpose: Revitalization constitutes an indispensable part of urban development. The use of this concept is thus crucial in the development and communication of new regional products. The elements of territorial marketing enable development of a new product structure - a place. The main article objective entails an attempt to define territorial marketing in the context of revitalization, i.e., as a concept of new product - place - development. Additional objectives are to indicate the impact of revitalization on the change in the surroundings of the Old Market in Bydgoszcz and to link the revitalization processes with the marketing communication of tourist activity. Design/methodology/approach: The article analyses the latest scientific literature on revitalization and territorial marketing. A case study analysis was additionally carried out. Case study conducted in this article was related to the Old Market in Bydgoszcz. Market plate revitalization was analysed at first. Subsequently the authors of the article made an analysis of the Old Market's adjacent streets as well as its key objects. Findings: Owing to the revitalization of the Old Market Square in Bydgoszcz, a new local product has been developed - a place of modified features and functions. The use of territorial marketing tools has helped to attract tourists and residents. The revitalization showed that the Bydgoszcz's Old Town is an attractive place for business, bringing restaurants and entertainment venues to the area. Practical implications: Revitalization and its areas had a positive impact on the development of facilities located in the vicinity of the Old Market in Bydgoszcz. An important element is the skilful management of this place and its financing for further development. Social implications: The key element in the revitalization of the Old Market in Bydgoszcz is the implementation of economic, cultural and social aspects. The implementation of these aspects has a positive impact on local residents and local entrepreneurs. Originality/value: The results of the analysis conducted enrich the literature on revitalization and territorial marketing. Moreover, they serve as a recommendation for further quantitative research in this field.
Investments in intangible assets have become an important factor in the growth and competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises. The aim of the article is to diagnose qualitative and quantitative aspects of investment of small and medium-sized enterprises in intangible assets in selected European Union countries. In order to achieve the research objective, a method of scientific description based on the analysis of the literature on the subject in the field of innovation and investment in intangible assets, was used. The authors have reviewed numerous reports prepared by the European Commission, the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development, OECD, Eurostat, ACCE, IFAC, and Edinburgh Group regarding the SME sector. The article presents a comparison of selected regulations regarding intangible assets contained in the Polish Accounting Act and the International Accounting Standard No. 38 "Intangible assets".
The article aims at evaluating the use of EU funds allocated to public services development by local government administration and indicates the problems and challenges of Polish local governments in terms of integration and globalization processes, while stressing the necessity of public services development in e-administration. Then, the local governments’ opportunities to acquire co-funding from 2014-2020 Operational Program Knowledge Education Development, specifically under priority axis II Effective public policies for the labour market, economy and education (measure 2.18) have been provided with their characteristics. Further, the article evaluates the use of EU funds for the projects, submitted and recommended for co-funding, in response to the competitions announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration in Warsaw. Last but not least, the outcomes reported by the Local Authorities participating in the completed projects, are presented. The importance and significance of e-administration development for clients residents and entrepreneurs using e-services provided by local authorities has also been stressed. This article constitutes an introduction to a series of publications for researching the effect of EU funds on the development of local governments, and thus enhancing the competitiveness across the regions.
