Abstract The article comments on optimisation of passenger car engines running on CNG. It discusses the effect of diameter of gas-mixer diffuser on power parameters, as well as the influence of the control of mixture composition on emission parameters of the engine. The aim of the optimisation of the control program for mixture composition, in partial-load regimes, has been to keep the air excess ratio lambda (A) in the range lambda = 0.99 - 0.999 and by that to keep the emission parameters as stipulated in the Regulation ECE R 83. The obtained emission results arę in agreement with the cited regulation for rebuilt passenger car engines that can work in bi-fuel operation, L e. they can run either on natural gas or on petrol.
