Content available Field trip in the Kerala : report
EN
This report contains short information about the geomorphological field trip in Kerala State. The field trip was largely focused on various geomorphological and geoecological aspects of laterites and backwaters which dominate in landscape of Kerala. One of the main highlights of the field trip was to the examination of type locality of laterite. Nearly 60% of the Kerala is covered by laterite or laterite-derived materials, and lateritisation process dominates the landform development from the coast to foothills. The second main highlights of the field trip was to the examination of backwaters which are a network of five big lakes (lagoons and estuaries) and rivers linked by natural and man-made canals.

The grain size of material transported during flood along the longitudinal profile of the small Carpathian stream (the Bystrzanka stream) and its main tributaries was examined. The silt fraction is the dominant material transported during floods. The average content of this fraction varies from 67 to 88%. The highest standard deviation was recorded in relation to the sand fraction, what have been linked with the human impact (especially in the channel). During the rising limb phase the sand fraction showed a higher percentage content than during decreasing limb (at the same water level) and contrary in the case of the finest fraction. There were observed a statistically significant (<0.05) inverse relationship between the sand and silt fraction and the sand and clay fraction. The study showed no statistically significant impact of factors (precipitation, discharge) controlling summer floods on the size of suspended sediment.

The aim of the analysis was to demonstrate the role of reservoirs in shaping nutrient content (nitrates NO3- and phosphates PO43- as well as ammonia NH4+) in the waters of mountain rivers. Three Carpathian rivers with reservoirs in their courses were selected for the study: the Ropa River (Klimkowka reservoir), the Dunajec River (the Czorsztyn-Sromowce Wyzne reservoir complex) and the Raba River (Dobczyce reservoir). The basic criteria for the selection of the study objects for the investigation were: similar hydrological regime of the rivers and diverse parameters and functions of the storage reservoirs. The analysis of nutrient concentration was based on a long-term series of measurements (2004-2013). The reservoirs investigated generally contribute to an increase in nitrates in the rivers flowing below the reservoirs in particular months. The role of reservoirs in shaping phosphate and ammonia levels was not as evident as in the case of nitrates. The reservoirs are merely one of numerous factors that contribute to nutrient levels in the water of the mountains rivers. In the light of the analysis of nutrient concentrations in the surface water tested, it may be concluded that the reservoirs do not cause a clear and permanent deterioration of river water quality.

W artykule scharakteryzowano warunki termiczne w zespole zbiorników Czorsztyn-Sromowce Wyżne. Analizę oparto na wynikach pomiarów temperatury wody w wybranych pionach hydrometrycznych rozpatrywanych zbiorników oraz temperatury wody Dunajca powyżej i poniżej zbiorników. Badania terenowe wykonano w latach 2012-2013 w charakterystycznych dla poszczególnych pór roku warunkach hydrometeorologicznych. Wykazano przestrzenną i czasową dynamikę temperatury wody w zbiorniku Czorsztyn oraz rolę zbiornika Sromowce Wyżne w kształtowaniu temperatury wody odpływającej z wyżej położonego zbiornika Czorsztyn.

The article presents thermal conditions of the Czorsztyn-Sromowce Wyżne reservoirs соmрlех. The analysis is based on the water temperature measurement results, gathered in chosen hydrometric verticals of the reservoirs and on the Dunajec гіѵег upstream and downstream of the reservoirs. The research was carried out in the years 2012-2013 in hydro-meterological conditions characteristic for different seasond. Its results present spatial and temporal dynamics of the Czorsztyn reservoir temperature and the role of the Sromowce Wyżne reservoir in shaping the temperature of the water outflowing from the Czorsztyn reservoir located upstream.
