Rosnące zapotrzebowanie świata na energię warunkujące standard życia społeczeństw motywuje do rozwoju elektroenergetyki i jej unowocześniania. Wynikają z tego wyzwania dla węgla jako surowca energetycznego. Prezentowane informacje o występujących w tym zakresie trendach w świecie wskazują jednoznacznie na to, że przez wiele lat węgiel utrzyma dominującą pozycję w produkcji energii elektrycznej. Przemawia to za ścisłym powiązaniem polskiej elektroenergetyki z problemami rodzimego górnictwa.

The lowest, since several years now, price of coking coal on world markets troubles the producers not only in Poland but also in Japan and China that are the main coke exporters. The United States where coke production and consumption is assessed in a various way depending on the accepted development strategy, and Germany with the stable level of imports play an important role as the importers. The future of the market will depend on development of blast furnace technique, development of direct reduction method and available production potential. The article contains the review of the situation mainly in the non- European countries exerting a meaningful impact upon the international coke trade.
