The fundamental transformation of the global energy sector challenges Polish energy companies to define new organisational goals. To a large extent, these objectives determine an energy company’s competitive position and ability to develop in the long term. However, achieving the set goals requires adequate resources. This paper mainly aims to identify and assess the resources used to achieve organisational goals in Polish energy companies. Based on a literature review and data collected from 110 Polish energy companies, the authors identified and assessed resources for achieving their organisational goals. The study confirmed that the organisational goals pursued by energy companies are interrelated. Analysis of the results of the basic organisational goals postulated by Polish energy companies showed that economic goals, such as “market share growth”, “implementation of innovative solutions”, and “quality of products/services”, are among the most important. The study showed that the resources held by energy companies are important for implementing separate organisational goals. Human resources received the highest rating and were considered of the greatest importance for the implementation of the goals of “sector development”, “uninterrupted energy supply”, and “sustainable development”. The paper assesses and discusses the characteristics of Polish energy companies’ organisational resources and organisational goals. The contribution of this study is the highlighted importance of resources in achieving the organisational goals of Polish energy companies. The main practical implication of this article is to stress the existence of links between the individual goals of companies in the energy sector and to highlight the importance of the different resource categories they possess for achieving specific objective bundles.
Purpose: With increasing digitalization, the debate on the direction of transformation in various sectors of the economy and their ability to keep up with the changes in this area is becoming increasingly complex. The energy industry is one of the key sectors in the economy, and as such it must follow trends and adapt to changing conditions. The aim of the paper is to diagnose and assess the level of progress in digital transformation among Polish energy sector enterprises. Design/methodology/approach: The research was conducted on a group of 110 entities, with a survey questionnaire. The gathered data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings: Although the level of employing Industry 4.0 tools in Polish energy sector enterprises is at a low level, managers recognize the importance of following the path toward digital transformation. The awareness of particular digital transformation prerequisites differs depending on the phase of the digital transformation process. Research limitations/implications: Among the limitations of the research procedure, issues such as the single respondent design and the exclusion of micro entities from the research should be noted. However, the exclusion of micro entities from the analysis was intentional, and this area deserves the attention of researchers. The specificity of the functioning and organization of the activity of micro enterprises may distort the image of the sector. Referring to the single respondent design, it was assumed that in this phase of the research it is reasonable to collect individual opinions specific to a given enterprise. It would be worth extending the analysis by conducting in-depth interviews or attempting more in-depth research at the level of individual entities. Originality/value: This article contributes to the knowledge of the energy sector in Poland in the context of Industry 4.0.
Are regional airports economic effectiveness-oriented? Evidence from Poland Striving for a satisfactory level of effectiveness, managers must take actions aimed at achieving the set objectives and at reacting flexibly to changes that take place in the environment. They can do it by referring to the concept of dynamic capabilities that draw attention to a specific category of competences. Assuming that dynamic capabilities can be developed in any type of organisation, the article attempts to answer the question about the reasons for the differences in economic effectiveness of 13 Polish regional airports and 458 private enterprises. The results suggest that the category of economic effectiveness is important not only for private enterprises but also for regional airports. The findings reveal that the development of dynamic capabilities is conditioned not only by the period of the enterprise’s existence but also by the context of its operation, primarily the industry context.
