The catalytic combustion of hydrogen and carbon monoxide over Pt/γ-Al2O3 catalyst was investigated numerically for H2/CO/O2/N2 mixtures with overall lean equivalence ratios ϕ = 0.117 .. 0.167, H2:CO molar ratios 1:1.5 .. 1:6, a pressure of 0.6 MPa, and a surface temperature range from 600 to 770 K relevant for micro-scale turbines and large gas turbine based power generation systems. Simulations were carried out with a two-dimensional CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) model in conjunction with detailed hetero-/homogeneous kinetic schemes and transports to explore the impact of hydrogen addition on catalytic combustion of carbon monoxide. The detailed reaction mechanisms were constructed by implementing recent updates to existing kinetic models. The simulation results indicated that the hydrogen addition kinetically promotes the catalytic combustion of carbon monoxide at wall temperatures as low as 600 K, whereby the catalytic reactions of hydrogen are fully lit-off and the conversion of carbon monoxide is mixed transport/kinetically controlled. Such a low temperature limit is of great interest to idling and part-load operation in large gas turbines and to normal operation for recuperative micro-scale turbine systems. Kinetic analysis demonstrated that the promoting impact of hydrogen addition on catalytic combustion of carbon monoxide is attributed to the indirect effect of hydrogen reactions on the surface species coverage, while direct coupling steps between hydrogen and carbon monoxide are of relatively minor importance. The added hydrogen inhibits the catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide for wall temperatures below 520 K, which are well below the minimum inlet temperatures of reactants in micro-scale turbine based power generation systems.

The formation mechanism of regularly arranged tubular pores during an acid-based electrophoretic deposition (EPD) process was explored by studying the influence of gauze electrodes and suspension properties on the pore structures. The gauze electrodes can change the intensity of electrical field on the electrode surface, and thus control the pore locations. The mesh size not only restricts the ultimate pore size, but also determines the regularity of the pores. Under specific experimental conditions, a critical value of mesh size for attaining the regularity of the pores arrangement can be determined. Meanwhile, the pore structures can be controlled by a combination of pH value and zeta potential of the suspensions. The strength of the acidity is also one of the determinants to the final structures.

This paper considers a fading cognitive multiple access channel (CMAC), where multiple secondary users (SUs), who share the spectrum with a primary user (PU), transmit to a cognitive base station (CBS). A power station is assumed to harvest energy from the nature and then provide power to the SUs. We investigate the power allocation problems for such a CMAC to maximize the SU sum rate under the interference power constraint, the sum transmit power constraint and the peak transmit power constraint of each individual SU. In particular, two scenarios are considered: with successive interference cancellation (SIC) and without SIC. For the first scenario, the optimal power allocation algorithm is derived. For the second scenario, a heuristic algorithm is proposed. We show that the proposed algorithm with SIC outperforms the algorithm without SIC in terms of the SU sum rate, while the algorithm without SIC outperforms the algorithm with SIC in terms of the number of admitted SUs for a high sum transmit power limit and a low peak transmit power limit of each individual SU.

It is widely accepted that condition-based replacement can not only make full use of components, but also decline inventory cost if the procurement of spare parts can be triggered upon accurate failure prediction. Most of the existing degradation or failure prediction models and approaches are population-based failures or suspensions, namely, to predict the failure time of a component, there are some failure or suspension histories of same type or similar components which can be used as reference. However, in practice, there exists the phenomenon in which no failure or suspension histories for some components can be used, what can be utilized is just the collected condition monitoring signals to date. In that case, failure time and probability are difficult to be estimated accurately. In this paper, a novel degradation prediction approach is introduced. Meantime, a new failure probability estimation function is developed based on component “service time” and “degradation extent” simultaneously. Then replacement and spare part ordering are jointly optimized according to the estimated failure probability. The optimization objective is to minimize long-run cost rate. Two bearing datasets are used to validate the proposed approach.

Powszechnie przyjmuje się, że wymiana w oparciu o stan techniczny pozwala nie tylko na pełne wykorzystanie elementów składowych, ale także na zmniejszenie kosztów magazynowych (związanych z przechowywaniem zapasów) jeśli zamawianie części zamiennych da się powiązać z trafnym prognozowaniem uszkodzeń. Większość istniejących modeli i teorii predykcji degradacji lub uszkodzeń opiera się na danych populacyjnych o uszkodzeniach lub zawieszeniu pracy co oznacza, że czas uszkodzenia komponentu przewiduje się w odniesieniu do historii uszkodzeń lub zawieszeń pracy tego samego typu lub podobnego typu elementów składowych. Jednak w praktyce zdarza się, że dla niektórych komponentów nie istnieją historie uszkodzeń lub zawieszenia pracy, do których można by się odnieść; jedyne co można wykorzystać to zgromadzone dotychczas sygnały z monitorowania stanu. W takim przypadku, trudno jest ocenić dokładnie czas i prawdopodobieństwo wystąpienia uszkodzenia. W niniejszej pracy, przedstawiono nowatorskie podejście do przewidywania degradacji. Opracowano nową funkcję szacowania prawdopodobieństwa uszkodzenia opartą na jednoczesnym wykorzystaniu "czasu pracy" oraz "stopnia degradacji" komponentu. Następnie wspólnie zoptymalizowano procesy wymiany i zamawiania części zamiennych zgodnie z szacowanym prawdopodobieństwem wystąpienia uszkodzenia. Celem optymalizacji była minimalizacja długoterminowego wskaźnika kosztów . Poprawność proponowanego podejścia zweryfikowano z wykorzystaniem dwóch zbiorów danych dotyczących łożysk.

Purpose: In this work, a finite element study is proposed to evaluate the effects of the transducer and its coupling layer on the performance of round window (RW) stimulation. Methods: Based on a set of micro-computer tomography images of a healthy adult’s right ear and reverse engineering technique, a coupled finite-element model of the human ear and the transducer was constructed and verified. Then, the effect of the cross-section of the transducer, the elastic modulus of the coupling layer, the mass of the transducer, and the preload of the transducer were studied. Results: The increase of the transducer’s cross-section area deteriorates the RW stimulation, especially at the lower frequencies. This adverse effect of the cross-section area’s increase of the transducer can be reduced by adding a coupling layer between the transducer and the RW. However, the coupling layer’s improvement on the RW stimulation is reduced with the increase of its elastic modulus. Moreover, the mass loading of the transducer decreases the RW stimulation’s performance mainly at higher frequencies and applying a static preload on the transducer enhances its hearing compensating performance at higher frequencies. Conclusions: The influence of the transducer’s mass, the mass of the transducer, the applied static preload and the properties of the coupling layer must be taken into account in the design of the RW stimulation type implantable middle ear hearing device.

Using the density matrix theory, we have studied the double tunneling induced transparency slow light in the double asymmetry quantum dot molecules. With applied electric field, double tunneling induced transparency occur in the same time. Four absorption peaks are found near the resonance energy level in the absorption spectrum and the absorption peak can be tuned by the applied electric field. The velocity and bandwidth of the multiple-windows slow light can also be controlled by the applied electric field. In our model, with Te =0.1meV, we can get about 0.001c and 20GHz bandwidth in each transparency window. Such a property may be applied in all optical buffers, optical switching and filter.

Content available remote Fast Convergence of Distance-based Inconsistency in Pairwise Comparisons

This study presents theoretical proof and empirical evidence of the reduction algorithm convergence for the distance-based inconsistency in pairwise comparisons. Our empirical research shows that the convergence very quick. It usually takes less than 10 reductions to bring the inconsistency of the pairwise comparisons matrix below the assumed threshold of 1/3 (sufficient for most applications). We believe that this is the first Monte Carlo study demonstrating such results for the convergence speed of inconsistency reduction in pairwise comparisons.

The inverse problem of textile material design (IPTMD) aims to determine textile materials with optimum thermal conductivities for the thickness designed in terms of the thermal comfort requirements of the wearer. In this paper, an IPTMD is presented on the basis of the physical nature of steady heat and moisture transfer in a human body-clothing-environment system. A globally convergent algorithm, the modified particle collision algorithm (MPCA), is proposed and its validity is verified. The MPCA is applied to solve the IPTMD for single-layer textile materials at low temperature. Numerical simulation results of the IPTMD proved the suitability of the IPTMD and effectiveness of the MPCA in solving complex global optimisation problems. The encouraging results indicate that the modelling method above and optimisation algorithm can be used for further applications.

Problem inwersyjny projektowania materiałów włókienniczych ma na celu określenie materiałów włókienniczych z optymalną przewodnością cieplną dla grubości zaprojektowanej z uwzględnieniem komfortu termicznego i wygody użytkownika. W pracy przedstawiono problem na podstawie stałego przepływu ciepła i wilgotności pomiędzy ciałem człowieka, odzieżą a środowiskiem zewnętrznym. Zaprezentowano i zweryfikowano prawidłowość algorytmu zbieżnego, algorytmu zderzenia cząstek modyfikowanych, który jest stosowany w celu rozwiązania problemu dla jednowarstwowych materiałów włókienniczych w niskich temperaturach. Wyniki symulacji numerycznych problemu dowodzą jego przydatności i skuteczności algorytmu w rozwiązywaniu złożonych problemów optymalizacji. Zachęcające rezultaty wskazują, że powyższy sposób modelowania i algorytm optymalizacji mogą być używane do różnych zastosowań.

A robust synchronization method based on least mean square is proposed for the real time detection of fundamental and harmonic symmetrical components, including positive, negative and zero sequence. The new architecture is composed of three parallel structures providing estimation of each phase fundamental and harmonic components delivered into a linear matrix transformation for grid sequence extraction. To achieve frequency adaptation, a combination of least mean square and phase locked loop is used. The paper presents excellent simulation and experimental results in order to verify correctness and validity of the algorithm.

W artykule opisano opracowaną metodę synchronizacji z siecią, wykrywającą w czasie rzeczywistym częstotliwość podstawową oraz wyższe harmoniczne, w tym składową zgodną, przeciwną i zerową. Architektura składa się z trzech równoległych estymatorów harmonicznych dla każdej fazy. Po przetworzeniu danych i wyznaczeniu składowych, dokonywana jest synchronizacja, z wykorzystaniem metody najmniejszych kwadratów oraz PLL. Przedstawione zostały wyniki symulacyjne i eksperymentalne.

In order to ensure the engine can always work in the optimal fuel states and supply for electro-thermal gun, neural network controller of engine is designed in the electric drive tracked vehicle. The identification model of engine of tracked vehicle based on network is set up by using the measured data of the engine as learning stylebook so that the optimal fuel curves can be got based on the model. Simulation results show it can always work in the optimal fuel states when the engine works based on the optimal fuel curves in stable state.

The converter is designed by integrating a sepic circuit and a flyback circuit, the circuit work in the quasi-resonance state, and the switch is turned on in the zero voltage switching (ZVS) state, which decreased the switching losses of the converter.

Desertification is one of the most serious environmental problems on a global scale. China suffers from desertification over large areas. Landscape boundaries profoundly influence the structure and function of landscapes, and influence ecological processes both locally and over large scales. Data on soil properties and vegetation collected on three 110 km parallel transects across sandy land-steppe transition zone in Yanchi county, Ningxia region, northwestern China, were used to analyze changes along the sandy land/steppe boundary by using the Moving Split Window (MSW), to determine desertification dynamics, and to explore changes of vegetation and soil properties among different desertification degree. Combining the dissimilarity profiles of soil particle size with importance value (IV) of vegetation, four boundaries were detected along transects. According to the four boundaries, we divided the whole sandy land/steppe ecotone area into five desertification categories: potential desertification (PD), light desertification (LD), medium desertification (MD), severe desertification (SD) and extreme desertification (ED). Sand fractions increased, while silt and clay fractions, soil organic C, total N and available N decreased and exhibited clear gradient changes from the potential desertification land to the extreme desertification land. All areas we studied have been desertificated at different degree based upon soil particle compositions at different depths. With the aggravation of sandy desertification, the steppe species dominating in the potential desertification land gradually gave place to arid and sand tolerant perennials and therophytes and eventually to psammophyte annuals and shrubs in the extreme desertification land.

Based on a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model and an inverse system method, this paper deals with the problem of actuator fault estimation for a class of nonlinear dynamic systems. Two different estimation strategies are developed. Firstly, T-S fuzzy models are used to describe nonlinear dynamic systems with an actuator fault. Then, a robust sliding mode observer is designed based on a T-S fuzzy model, and an inverse system method is used to estimate the actuator fault. Next, the second fault estimation strategy is developed. Compared with some existing techniques, such as adaptive and sliding mode methods, the one presented in this paper is easier to be implemented in practice. Finally, two numerical examples are given to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed techniques.

W regionie górniczym Shilu posiadającym olbrzymie zasoby rud żelaza typu BIF (Banded Iron Formation), oprócz mineralizacji tlenkami Fe (głównie hematyt), występuje lokalnie w spągu 6 poziomu stratygraficznego grupy Shilu, bogata polimetaliczna mineralizacja siarczkowa Cu–Co. W regionie górniczym Shilu występują słabo zmetamorfizowane skały wulkanoklastyczne i węglanowe zaliczane do mezo- i neoproterozoiku, w które intrudowały różnego wieku granitoidy. Przedmiotem badań mikroskopowych w świetle odbitym i w mikroskopie elektronowym CAMECA SX 100, wyposażonym w przystawkę EDS i WDS, była polimetaliczna mineralizacja kruszcowa z kopalni Beiyi i jej okolic. Mineralizacja kruszcowa, głównie pirotynowo-chalkopirytowa oraz kobaltonośny piryt (do ok. 11% wag. Co), występuje w zmienionych skałach węglanowo-krzemianowych i silnie okwarcowanych skałach diopsydowo-tremolitowych w postaci impregnacji, żyłek i masywnych agregatów ziarnistych. Pirotyn i chalkopiryt zawierają liczne wrostki oraz tworzą przerosty z innymi minerałami (sfaleryt, galena, glaukodot, costibit, kobaltyn, arsenopiryt, ullmannit, siegenit, tytanit, Co-bravoit i kasyteryt). Niewielkie kryształy (10–20 μm średnicy) tworzą minerały Bi (matyldyt i cosalit) i argentyt. W paragenezie z barytem, kalcytem i chlorytem pojawiają się amalgamaty Ag–Hg oraz cynober. Wyniki prac pozwoliły rozpoznać nowe, dotychczas nieopisywane ze złoża minerały. Rezultaty badań wskazują na krystalizację minerałów kruszcowych podczas 4–5 oddzielnych etapów precypitacji kruszców z roztworów hydrotermalnych, w zakresie od temperatur średnich do niskich. Wstępne wyniki oznaczeń wieku izotopowego metodą Re–Os młodszej generacji pirytów (pozbawionych domieszek kobaltu) wskazują na ich precypitację w interwale 240–260 mln lat.

The famous Shilu iron-polymetallic ore mining district located in western Hainan Island, South China, occurs within Meso- and Neoproterozoic low-grade metamorphosed volcanoclastics and carbonates, that belong to the 6th sequence of the Shilu Group. Granitoid intrusions of different ages occur in the surroundings of the mining area. The Shilu deposit is considered to be a structurally reworked as well as hydrothermally altered and enriched ore deposit of a Banded Iron Formation type. The deposit is a very important iron producer from hematite (and minor magnetite) ores. Our work focused on the polymetallic sulfide mineralization that underlies the iron oxide ores. We selected several samples of sulfide ores from the Shilu deposit of the Beiyi mine and its close vicinity. We performed detailed ore microscopic studies as well as electron microprobe analyses using the CAMECA SX 100 equipped with EDS and WDS systems. Pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and Co-bearing pyrite (up to 11 wt% Co) dominated among ore sulfides in the studied samples. These ore minerals occur in calc-silicate rocks and strongly silicified diopside, tremolite-bearing rocks, either as disseminated grains, sometimes in veinlets, or in aggregates that may form massive ores. Pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite may contain numerous solid inclusions, overgrowths and intergrowths of subordinate sulfides (sphalerite, galena), sulfosalts (glaucodot, costibite, cobaltite, arsenopyrite, ullmannite), sulfospinels (siegenite) and cassiterite that belong to the minerals crystallizing at medium to low temperatures. Among these minerals, siegenite and Co-bravoite dominate. Tiny crystals (10–20 μm in size) of Bi-minerals (matildite, cosalite) and argentite are also present. Moreover, in association with barite, calcite and chlorite, Ag-Hg amalgamate and cinnabar can occur. The results of our study point to the multistage medium- to low-temperature hydrothermal precipitation of ore sulfides during 4–5 separate stages. Preliminary results of Re-Os isotope datings indicate that pyrites of younger generation (lack of significant Co admixture) crystallized during 240–260 Ma.

Pine needles and foodstuffs collected from Beijing, China, were analyzed by instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) combined with organic solvent extraction for total halogens, extractable organohalogens (EOX) and extractable persistent organohalogens (EPOX). The INAA detection limits are 50 ng, 8 ng and 3.5 ng for Cl, Br and I, respectively. The contents and distribution patterns of organohalogens in these samples are reported. EOCl accounted for 0.013 0.016% and 1.6 2.7% of the total chlorine in yogurt and apples, respectively, which suggested that chlorine in foodstuffs mainly existed as inorganic species and non-extractable organochlorines. EOCl contents in pine needles and foodstuffs were noticeably higher than those of EOBr and EOI. For pine needles, yogurt and apples, 1.6 34%, 23 58% and 29 35% of EOCl remained as extractable persistent organochlorine (EPOCl), respectively. Pine needle containing higher EOCl contents in chemical industrial and traffic hub areas indicated that chemical industries and exhaust emission from vehicle were the main sources of organochlorines in the Beijing's air. The relative proportions of the known organochlorines (such as HCHs, DDTs, chlordanes, heptachlor, HCB and PCBs) to the total EOCl and EPOCl were 0.04 1.6% and 0.7 21.5%, respectively, which implied that the identity of species of a major portion of the EOCl and EPOCl measured in pine needles was unknown.
