Content available remote Industrial centrifugal compressor model stages based on compressor tests results

New generation of pipe-line compressors was created on a base of computerized gas dynamic design (Universal modeling method). After correction of empirical coefficients in the models of work input and head losses the calculated performances matches to test results of compressors. Corrected sets of empirical coefficients are used to calculate performances of 65 stages of different types. Performance curves and flow path dimensions can be used in design practice as model stages of new generation.

The article is dedicated to numerical research results of SPbSPU Compressor Department since 1980th obtained in co-operation with German and Polish Technical Universities and independently. The numerical results are compared with experimental data on flow structure and gas dynamic performances. Different methods of evaluations are compared. Some conclusions on effective means of evaluations are made for centrifugal and axial compressor stages.

TU SPb Compressor Department has decades' long experience in gas dynamic design of centrifugal industrial compressors. The engineering field type Universal Modeling method was developed and successfully applied. Main objects of design were and are the gas industry compressors - more than 290 pieces of 35 types operate in industry now. The choice of RPM, number of stages, types of impellers and diffusers are discussed below meaning general considerations, specific demands for pipeline compressors and TU SPb design experience.

The new generation 20CE (" 20th Century End") model stage s includes 20 impellers and vaneless diffusers. Five basic model stages with subvariants were developed and tested at periphery speed Mach number range 0.5 … 0.8. The maximum polytropic efficiency 0.83 ... 0.869 corresponds to the range of design flow rate coefficients (φ des= 0.038 … 0. 065) etc. The ratio of' surge /design flow rates is c lose to 0.5 or less. The high design parameters of new compressors based on the stages were validated with shop tests.
