This work deals with issues of load carrying capacity and stiffness of joints with screws and inner-outer threaded nuts loaded lateral force. Furniture joints are made as single shear connection with the use of beech and spruce timber. For experimental verification screws and inner-outer threaded nuts dimension M6x13 M8x13 were used. The results of experiments was to determine the load carrying capacity of joints with respect to the direction of wood fibres samples also determine the maximum displacement (deformation) and the modulus of displacement and joint stiffness.

This paper presents the influence of furniture joint material and size of fastener on load-carrying capacity of single shear steel-to-timber joints. As for the fasteners, wood screws with dimensions 3x25mm and 6x40mm were used. These dimensions are the most widely used in furniture construction. The test samples were made from spruce and beech timber and were loaded with lateral force applied parallel and perpendicular to the wood fibres. We evaluated the impact of the direction of wood fibres in the wood species and size of the fasteners means for load carrying capacity, its deformation (displacement) and joint stiffness
