A Study on Electrical Performances and Lifetime of a Flexible Electrochromic Textile Device

Using their ability to change their color according to an external stimulation, chromic materials can be used to form a color-changing textile. Electrochromism, more particularly, is a colour change phenomenon caused by the application of an electrical potential. A flexible textile electrochromic device composed of four layers is presented. In order to improve the lifetime of this structure, the electrical performances of the electrolyte layer are studied. A method to measure and calculate the resistance variations of the electrolyte applied on a textile cotton substrate is given. Relations between the electrical performances of the electrolyte and the electrochromic effect of the device are also highlighted.

This study involved the sensory evaluation of knitted textiles which have gone through different domestic laundering treatments with respect to whether their sensory attributes or a combination of different measured sensory attributes can best predict the preference of consumers in the aspect of comfort . The textile consumer always has specific preferences which are related to textile properties at the time of purchasing textiles and also to the perception of how long lasting these properties will be. In the large competitive market of softeners, all softener producers claim the improvement of fabric hand as well as the mechanical properties of textiles. The main aim of this study is to find the important sensory parameters enhanced by the use of softener during washing and the impact of repeated washing on sensory attributes. The study is based on cationic softener (rinse cycle type). We also examined the change in the handle of fabric using the fabric life cycle. The change in the handle of fabric after washing is unavoidable because of strong mechanical action during washing, but it can be improved with the use of domestic softeners during the rinse cycle. In Part I, we established a panel for the sensory evaluation of knitted fabrics that have gone through the ageing of washing cycles with/without the use of fabric softener. The panel assessed the fabrics using criteria defined by the author. In part II, we will discuss the influence of ageing during the washing cycle and the use of fabric softener on sensory properties.

Badano wpływ prania środkami domowymi na różnego rodzaju dzianiny. Badania prowadzono metodą sensoryczną, mając na uwadze stosowane w praniu domowe zmiękczacze, preferowaną jakość dzianin oraz wpływ wielokrotnego prania. Opracowano metodykę badań i kryteria oceny, a badania opisano w części drugiej.

This study involved the sensory evaluation of knitted textiles which had gone through different domestic laundering treatments, with respect to whether the sensory attributes or a combination of the different sensory attributes measured can best predict the preference of consumers regarding comfort. We defined the parameter ‘Degree of influence’ for sensory attributes in order to check the level of the influence of ageing and the use of domestic fabric softener on each attribute. Principal component analysis (a statistical data analysis which includes appropriate criteria) was then performed in order to make a better interpretation of the sensory data by plotting a fabric map and sensory attribute map.

Przebadano metodą sensoryczną dzianiny prane przy zastosowaniu różnych procedur z użyciem domowych zmiękczaczy. Celem badania było określenie, które procedury i zmiękczacze najlepiej pozwalają na zachowanie komfortu noszenia pranych dzianin oraz jak przebiega proces starzenia funkcji cykli prania. Przeprowadzono analizę statystyczną a przedstawione wykresy kołowe pozwalają wizualnie łatwo ocenić uzyskane wyniki.
