Foundry dust from blasting and grinding of castings contain a high amount of iron, ergo it is possible its recycling in foundry process. Dust was compacted by briquetting, two kinds of briquettes were prepared (A contained 95% magnetic part of dust from casting blasting +5% bentonite and B contained 95% mixture of dust from casting grinding and magnetic part of dust from casting blasting + 5% bentonite) and used as a part of charge into the electric induction furnace. It was found that addition of briquettes has had an influence of a chemical composition of cast iron above all on content of sulphur, phosphorus and silicon. It was not reflected in decrease in tensile strength and in microstructure. Yield of metal from briquettes was not lower then 70%.

Content available remote Potential cupola slag utilization in the production of concrete

The paper presents results from the research of the blast furnace and cupola slag utilization in the concrete production. Pilot experiments of the concrete production were performed, by that the blast furnace and cupola furnace slag with a fractions of 0–4 mm; 4–8 mm; 8–16 mm were used as a natural substitute. A cupola slag and combination of the blast furnace and cupola slag were used in the experiments. The analysis results show that such concretes are suitable for less demanding applications.

A large volume of dust wastes is generated in each stage of the iron casting production. They differ in their chemical composition, morphology and granulometry. According to the chemical composition these wastes have different contents of major components i.e. metallic iron, ferrous oxide, silicon oxide, and aluminum oxide, and therefore they can be divided into tree basic categories: metallic dusts, mixed dusts and sand dusts. The aim of the experiments which are dealt with in the present paper was the fi rst group, i.e. metallic dusts. Within the foundry industry this type of dusts is mainly represented by dust from the shot blasting of iron castings and by dust from the grinding. These materials contain a high proportion of iron and therefore they are a very valuable material that is reusable in the foundry process; the condition is their conversion to compact (solid) state. Dust obtained from the shot blasting of castings was pelletized using bentonite, in the case of dust from the grinding of castings several methods of molding were tested, while it was found that the given material cannot be pelletized, but it can be used in the production of briquettes, where water glass will be used as a binder.

The paper presents results of research of demetallized EAF slag recycling into charge of electric arc furnace. Effects of recycling on steelmaking process parameters, on composition of steel and slag are discussed. Economic and environmental benefits of proposed technology are presented.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań nad recyklingiem żużli stalowniczych w elektrycznym piecu łukowym. Przedyskutowano wpływ tego procesu na parametry wytapianej stali, jej skład i ilość powstającego żużla. Omówiono korzyści ekonomiczne i środowiskowe tego procesu.
