There are 572 sanitary waste landfills in the Lviv Oblast, 52 out of which are city and 519 - rural. They occupy the territory of about 350 ha. Most grounds exploited with violation of burial place of wastes technology and without the preventive measures against environment contamination. To improve the situation Lviv Oblast State administration is bring into action the Regional program of municipal wastes handling on a period of 2006-2015 years, the main purpose of which is embodiment of new conception into municipal wastes handling practice, the essence of which is wastes control necessity on all stages of their life cycle.
