W artykule przedstawiono sposób parametryzacji trajektorii kwintowej umożliwiający różnicowanie tonalnych i atonalnych utworów muzycznych. Istota pomysłu tkwi w reprezentacji treści badanego utworu w formie trajektorii kwintowej obrazującej zmienność sygnatur kwintowych w czasie. Struktura trajektorii kwintowej zależy od skali utworu muzycznego. Przeprowadzone eksperymenty pokazują, iż trajektorie kwintowe muzyki tonalnej są istotnie różne od trajektorii muzyki atonalnej. Różnicowanie muzyki tonalnej i atonalnej staje się możliwe poprzez określenie prostych parametrów trajektorii kwintowej, takich jak współrzędne środka trajektorii kwintowej, czy odległość środka trajektorii kwintowej od środka koła kwintowego. W artykule przedstawiono trajektorie kwintowe otrzymane dla wybranych utworów muzyki tonalnej i atonalnej. Zaprezentowano również wyniki eksperymentów ukazujących wyraźną odmienność rozkładów wartości badanych parametrów trajektorii kwintowych uzyskanych dla obu grup utworów.

The article presents a tonal vs. atonal music discrimination technique. The essence of the discussed idea renders down to the representation of the content of a musical work in the form of the trajectory of fifths. The structure of the trajectory of fifths depends on the scale of the examined composition. The conducted experiments show that the trajectories of fifths corresponding to tonal music are considerably different from the trajectories representing atonal works. The differentiation of tonal and atonal music can be achieved via calculation of basic coefficients quantifying the trajectory of fifths, such as the coordinates of the center of the trajectory, or the distance of the center of the trajectory from the center of the coordinate system. The article presents examples of trajectories of fifths obtained for a selection of tonal and atonal music compositions. The plots illustrating the differences in distributions of values of the considered coefficients obtained for tonal and atonal music pieces are also presented.

W artykule przedstawiono metodę reprezentacji utworów muzycznych w postaci trajektorii kwintowej. Istota tworzenia trajektorii kwintowej polega na obserwacji zestawu pojawiających się dźwięków z ustaloną rozdzielczością czasową. Liczności, bądź czas trwania poszczególnych dźwięków odzwierciedlony jest poprzez długości wektorów wpisanych w koło kwintowe, tzw. sygnatury muzyczne. Trajektoria kwintowa obrazująca zmienność w czasie sygnatury muzycznej pozwala o jakościową ocenę struktury harmonicznej utworu muzycznego. Postać trajektorii kwintowej zależy z charakterem utworu i może stanowić obiekt badań związanych z pozyskiwaniem wiedzy muzycznej, ściśle powiązany z problemami klasyfikacji gatunków muzycznych. W artykule przedstawiono koncepcję tworzenia trajektorii kwintowej i rysunki pokazujące przykłady trajektorii kwintowych dla różnych znanych utworów muzycznych.

This paper presents a method for representing the musical works in the form of the trajectory of fifths. The essence of creating a trajectory of fifths consists in observing with a fixed time resolution a set of appearing sounds. The multiplicity, or duration of individual sounds is reflected by the lengths of vectors inscribed in the circle of fifths, so-called music signatures. The trajectory of fifths allows for a qualitative evaluation of the harmonic structure of a musical piece. The form of the trajectory of fifths is closely related to the character of the piece of music and can be an object of research related to the acquisition of music information retrieval, closely related to the problems of music genres recognition. This paper presents the concept of creating a trajectory of fifths and figures showing examples of trajectory of fifths for various well-known pieces of music.
