This paper describes experiments on the application of sodium bicarbonate desulphurisation in the coal-fuel boiler. The boiler has been in operation for several years now and it has refiably fulfilled the original assignment to reduce SO2 emissions from the value of 1200 -1500 mg/Nm3 to 400 mg/Nm3. Higher desulphurisation efficiency is determined only by the ratio of Na/S sorbent dosage. The resulting product of desulphurisation is stored together with fly ash in underground mines, and has no influence on the groundwater. Positive experience of the tests and boiler operation lies in higher reactivity of sodium and sulphur as compared with conventional methods based on limestone. Within the scope of the secondary measures of elimination of sulphur oxides in combustion products, an experimental dry-method desulphurisation of combustion products was performed by blasting an agent containing sodium bicarbonate NaHCO3 (99.6 %) into the flue ways before the electrostatic precipitator in a coal-fuel furnace with the steam output of 220 t/h.

Combustion of various fuels (lignite and wood waste materials) has been compared from the environmental point of view in circulating fluidised-bed power station in Steti. It was concluded that combustion of waste wood produces lower amounts of environmentally hazardous pollutants than combustion of fossil fuel.

Porównano spalanie różnych paliw (węgle brunatne i odpady drzewne) ze względu na ochronę środowiska w cyrkulacyjnym złożu fluidalnym elektrowni Steti. Stwierdzono, że podczas spalania odpadów drzewnych wytwarza się mniejsza ilość zagrażających środowisku czynników niż podczas spalania paliw kopalnych.

The main objective of this work was to compare characteristics of unburned carbon and behaviour of toxic elements at the co-combustion of coal and solid waste fuel with the results obtained for the same coal combustion with no addition of the waste fuel performed at the same fluidised-bed power station.

Głównym celem pracy było porównanie charakterystyk niespalonego węgla oraz zachowania toksycznych pierwiastków podczas współspalania węgla i paliw odpadowych z wynikami badań spalania węgla bez dodatku odpadów w tej samej fluidalnej elektrowni.

The articles gives a summary of the measurement units that are used for diagnostic measurements in fluidized bed boilers. During the verification process, the Technical University of Ostrava designed and tested various types of probes for temperature and velocity measurements, and for sampling both flue gases and solid particles. The results give more detailed information about the behaviour of the fluidized layer in various fluidized bed boilers. Moreover they can be of use in the case of boiler modifications or boiler operation improvements.

The article discuss the questions of thermal utilisation of mechanically drained stabilized sludge from the waste water treatment plants in the boiler with circulated fluid layer. The paper describes the thermal analysis of coal, sewage sludge and its mixtures, mud transport to the fluid bed boiler, effects on boiler efficiency, operational reliability of the combustion equipment, emissions and solid combustion residues.

At present, the natural limestone is used for desulphurization of waste gases for combustion of fossil fuels. However, it is important to save all primary sources for the future, i.e. this applies for limestone as well as. The researchers focused on potential finding the alternative sorbents for the purpose of desulphurization in dry additive method of desulphurization, which would become the alternative for natural limestone. The article is primarily focused on desulphurization tests of selected substances, i.e. starting from tests in laboratory scale to pilot scale units to the tests in real combustion facilities.
