About twenty species of scleractinian corals are known from the shallow marine epicontinental deposits (Middle Triassic: Anisian, Muschelkalk) of Kraków-Upper Silesia region. Four of them require taxonomic revision. On the basis of partly preserved micromorphological features and the microstructure of the skeletons two of them are corrected, i.e. Coelocoenia? assmanni Weissermel, 1925 and C. exporrecta Weissermel, 1925, from Kamień Śląski, near Opole (Upper Silesia). Coelocoenia? assmanni was incorporated into Eckastraea prisca (Weissermel, 1925), family Eckastraeidae Morycowa, 2006, in Morycowa and Szulc (2006) and C. exporrecta is assigned to a new genus Opolestraea nov. gen., family Eckastraeidae.

The genus Cyathophora Michelin, 1843 (Cyathophoridae) is removed from the suborder Stylinina Alloiteau, 1952 and transferred to the Stylophyllina Beauvais, 1980. Morphologically, it differs from stylinine corals in that rudimentary septa are developed in the form of ridges or spines on the wall and may continue onto the endothecal elements as amplexoid septa. Relics of primary aragonite microstructure, preserved in silicified colonies of Cyathophora steinmanni Fritzsche, 1924 (Barremian–early Aptian) and in a calcified colony of C. richardi Michelin, 1843 (middle Oxfordian), indicate a non-trabecular structure of their skeletons. The sclerenchyme of radial elements is differentiated into fascicles of fibres, and in the form of fascicles or a non-differentiated layer of fibres, it continues as the upper part of endothecal elements and as the incremental layers of the wall. A micro-lamellation of the skeleton corresponds to the accretionary mode of skeleton growth found in Recent corals. A similarity between the septal microstructure of Cyathophora and that of the stylophyllid genera, the Triassic Anthostylis Roniewicz, 1989 and the Triassic–Early Jurassic Stylophyllopsis Frech, 1890, is interpreted as a result of their being phylogenetically related. The microstructure of the Jurassic Stylina gaulardi Michelin, 1843 has been considered for purposes of comparison. The systematics of the genus Cyathophora is formally revised with C. richardi Michelin reinstated as the type species.

The studied corals have been collected from cores of boreholes located in the central part of the Polish Carpathian Foreland in the Dąbrowa Tarnowska–Szczucin area. The Jurassic complex in this area presents a continuous stratigraphic section from the Upper Callovian to Tithonian, locally passing to the Lower Cretaceous (Berriasian). Its thickness exceeds 1,100 m in this area. This complex is composed of marine, mainly shallow-water deposits. The corals occur within the upper part of the Upper Jurassic (Tithonian) deposits, almost entirely within the Swarzów Limestone Formation (= coral-algal limestone formation). This occurrence marks the northernmost extent of Tithonian shallow-water corals in Poland and one of the northernmost in Europe. 42 coral species (among them 14 in open nomenclature) were identified in deposits of this formation. They include two new species: Complexastrea magna and Complexastrea dabroviensis. All taxa, except one, belong to the order Scleractinia. The described assemblage displays a Late Jurassic character. The broader stratigraphic span is assigned to some species, which are quoted from the Middle Jurassic and some species lasted until the Early Cretaceous, Berriasian and/or Valanginian.

The Upper Jurassic coral-algal Swarzów Formation in the Dąbrowa Tarnowska–Szczucin area, occuring in the middle part of the Carpathian Foreland Poland contains rich macrofossils (i.e. scleractinian corals, bryozoans, brachiopods, algae) and generally sparse assemblages of microfossils. Some of the latter are interesting as a biostratigraphical tool. Thus, the presence of rare calpionellids (Calpionella alpina, C. aff. alpina, Crassicolaria cf. brevis, Tintinopsella cf. carpatica) argues for Late Tithonian age (standard Crassicollaria zone) of the upper part of this formation. It is suggested that the Swarzów Limestone Formation almost entirely represents the Tithonian, which probably reaches the lowest part of the lithostratigraphic unit of the Smęgorzów Limestone-Dolomitic Coquina Formation. The upper part of this unit may belong to the Lower Cretaceous, to Berriasian.

In the Lower Cretaceous (Urgonian) limestones of the Provence region (South France) shallow-water scleractinian corals are very common. This paper concentrates on corals from the suborder Microsolenina. They represent 34 taxa (including 5 new species) belonging to 14 genera from two families: Microsolenidae and Latomeandridae. This coral assemblage is representative for the late Early Cretaceous Tethyan realm but also shows some endemism. Its characteristic feature is the abundance of hydnophoroid specimens from the genus Hydnophoromeandraraea Morycowa. The Barremian–Early Aptian age of the studied corals is based on forami- nifera (mainly orbitolinids), dasycladale algae and rudists, and agrees with that of the whole studied coral fauna.

Actinaraeopsis ventosiana is a new scleractinian coral species from the Lower Cretaceous shallow- water limestones of the Mont Ventoux (Provence, SE France). To date only two Late Jurassic species of this genus have been known, i.e. Actinaraeopsis araneola Roniewicz and A. exilis Roniewicz. The new species shows some similarity to the Jurassic species A. araneola, but differs in microstructure details and morphometric parameters.

Shallow-water scleractinian corals from Cretaceous allochthonous sediments of Subpelagonian Zone in Agrostylia (Parnassos region, Central Greece) represent 47 taxa belonging to 35 genera, 15 families and 8 suborders; of these 3 new genera and 9 new species are described. Among these taxa, 5 were identified only at the generic level. One octocorallian species has also been identified. This coral assemblage is representative for late Early Cretaceous Tethyan realm but also shows some endemism. A characteristic feature of this scleractinian coral assemblage is the abundance of specimens from the suborder Rhipidogyrina. The Albian age of the corals discussed is indicated by the whole studied coral fauna, associated foraminifers, calpionellids and calcareous dinoflagellates.
