A portfolio of measures, including efficiency improvements and biomass co-firing, could substantially reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the coal fleet – perhaps by much as 60% – helping to maintain fuel diversity and making use of the existing substantial infrastructure. A key part of this "Green Coal Technology" would be retrofitting of advanced supercritical technology within the original boilerhouse envelope.
