The education is the main factor increasing human capital It has undoubtedly changed over time and exactly these changes have affected the development of the higher education and its strategies. Both public and private universities orient their activities to improve the quality of the education. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the strategy for the development of the higher education in Poland. The article presents several external conditions of the functioning of the Polish universities and the important factors for the development of the higher education and its strategies. Eventually, it also illustrates the two-way nature of the links between the university and its environment and discusses the Warsaw University of Technology Development Strategy for 2020.

Edukacja jest głównym czynnikiem zwiększającym kapitał ludzki. Niewątpliwie zmieniła się ona w czasie i dokładnie te zmiany wpłynęły na rozwój szkolnictwa wyższego i jego strategii. Zarówno uczelnie publiczne, jak i prywatne ukierunkowują swoje działania w celu poprawy jakości edukacji. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest omówienie strategii na rzecz rozwoju szkolnictwa wyższego w Polsce. W artykule przedstawiono szereg warunków zewnętrznych funkcjonowania polskich uczelni i ważnych czynników dla rozwoju szkolnictwa wyższego i jego strategii. Ostatecznie, artykuł ilustruje również dwukierunkowy charakter powiązań między uczelnią a jej otoczeniem i omawia Strategię Rozwoju Politechniki Warszawskiej na rok 2020.

The meaning of the intermodal transport on the example of PKP Cargo SA

The development of the intermodal transport is determined by changes in the structure of transport, its volume increase and a gradual decrease in importance of the rail transport itself. The intermodal transport also allows one to reduce road freight transport which is accompanied by high negative externalities. Eventually, it also allows one to take advantage of the railway potential, and that is why its development plays a more and more important role in the development strategies of the European Union and Polish transport. The article discusses the intermodal transport in the context of various modes of transport. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that the intermodal transport is a significant solution and that the choice of transport mode or its combination has a big impact on the supply chain. The author analyzes several definitions of intermodal transport. The majority of practical information used in the article was obtained from the PKP Cargo SA and from a logistics operator belonging to the PKP Cargo SA - the Cargosped Ltd. The author shows that the intermodal transport is more than a mere improvement in the transport infrastructure. The advantages of this kind of transport, as presented by the example of PKP Cargo SA, prove that it also offers social advantages because it poses less danger to the environment, and is generally characterized by improved safety and better use of available infrastructure.

Rozwój transportu intermodalnego jest określony przez zmiany w strukturze transportu, wzrost jego wielkości i stopniowy spadek znaczenia samego transportu kolejowego. Transport intermodalny umożliwia ograniczenie drogowego przewozu towarów, któremu towarzyszą wysokie negatywne efekty zewnętrzne. Ostatecznie pozwala on również wykorzystać potencjał kolei i dlatego postęp w tej dziedzinie ma coraz większe znaczenie w strategiach rozwoju Unii Europejskiej i polskiego transportu. W artykule omówiono transport intermodalny w kontekście różnych rodzajów transportu. Celem niniejszej pracy jest wykazanie, że transport intermodalny jest istotnym rozwiązaniem i że wybór środka transportu lub połączenia różnych środków ma duży wpływ na łańcuch dostaw. Ponadto przeanalizowano kilka definicji transportu intermodalnego. Najwięcej praktycznych informacji uzyskano od PKP Cargo SA oraz od operatora logistycznego należącego do PKP Cargo SA - Cargosped Sp. z o.o. Artykuł ma wykazać, że transport intermodalny wiąże się nie tylko z poprawą infrastruktury transportowej. Oferuje on również szereg korzyści społecznych ze względu na mniejsze obciążenie środowiska, poprawę bezpieczeństwa oraz lepsze wykorzystanie dostępnej infrastruktury.
