W artykule przedstawiono budowę geologiczną złoża, w tym chemizm wód leczniczych w rejonie uzdrowiska Ustroń, oraz zagadnienia górnicze wydobycia, w tym konstrukcję otworów eksploatacyjnych i tłocznych oraz bezpieczeństwo eksploatacji.

Ustroń health resort - one of the best Polish health resorts - has a microclimate and healing waters that are conducive to the treatment of, among others, respiratory, rheumatic or joint-muscle diseases. In the 1970s, 3 holes were madę here, in order to supply deposits of therapeutic brine, i.e. sodium-calcium chloride water with mineralisation 110-130 g/dm3 and outlet temperature of 21-23°C, in the limestone and upper devonian dolomites. Its extraction (3263 m3/year on average) is carried out by means of submersible pumps. In 1992, a discharge hole was madę in order to deliver (20-50 m3/d) of cleansed post-treatment water into absorbent layers for envi- ronmental protection. The water is accompanied by gas with a content of approx. 94% CH4 i and gas exponent 0.18-0.31 Nm3/m3 Therefore, the explosion hazard zones "2" were designated and the area of intake was fenced and marked. Leakage checks are also carried out on the infrastructure of the mining plant. After separating gas, water is collected in a tank from which it is taken for the needs of the spa. The organisational and technical So lutions adopted for use in a health resort mining plant ensure the safety of medicinal water exploitation, which is confirmed by the absence of accidents and failures.
