This paper presents a project executing within the framework of COST Action BM0605: Consciousness: A Trans-disciplinary, Integrated Approach. The research is centred on neurophysiological experiments to image brain function in diseases in which the phenomenon of consciousness plays an important role. The fundamental problem studied in this project will be an investigation of the relation between consciousness and speech perception. The study will be conducted using electroencephalographic methods on subjects with Auditory Processing Disorders.

The roman sculpture of the portrait character dated 50-30 BC. is the object of the contemporary medical diagnostics. The face of the quite old man represents some symptoms which may be due to different disease. The specialists representing surgery, dermatology and anatomy suggest some medical recognition of possible diseases on the basis of the visual characteristics of the face solely.

Rzymska klasyczna rzeźba o charakterze portretu datowana na okres 50-30 p.n.e. jest obiektem współczesnej diagnozy medycznej. Twarz starszego mężczyzny nosi symptomy pewnych procesów chorobowych. Specjaliści reprezentujący chirurgię, dermatologię i anatomię stawiają swoje hipotezy o charakterze diagnozy bazując jedynie na wizualnym oglądzie zmian chorobowych w obrębie twarzy.

Creation of e-learning materials is considered as a time consuming and costly process. Involving students in preparation of educational content may be beneficial in many ways. Firstly, it motivates students to self-study following a similar pattern as it is the case in learning-by-teaching sessions. Secondly, some of the students' projects may be reused in development of more advanced e-learning resources. The aim of this paper is to summarize three-year experiences gained in two elective courses on e-learning technologies offered to students of medicine and applied computer science. The spectrum of topics taken up by students is outlined. Possibilities of applying the outcomes of these courses in practice are discussed.

This paper presents questions related to new computer-aided didactic techniques such as e-learning and knowledge management. The main problems are the choice of content and the organization of knowledge and thus the ensuing creation of a unified educational system by employing diverse methods. One example of this could be individualized educational programmes or problem-based and integrated teaching combined with cross-subject presentation of the material being taught. Our proposal is include to e-education techniques individual extraordinary students’ homework which show their creativity.

In this paper a website that collects education resources concerned with breast cancer is presented. Materials are focused on the main problem (breast cancer) and come from many brands of medicine e.g. pathology, radiology, epidemiology. The “E-sutek” service was created using a new educational technique – e-learning. The website is addressed not only to medical and life science students, but to everyone who is interested in prophylaxis and the treatment illnesses of the breast.

Praca prezentuje serwis internetowy gromadzący zasoby edukacyjne związane z nowotworem gruczołu sutkowego. Zamieszczone w nim materiały koncentrują się wokół głównego zagadnienia, jakim jest rak piersi i pochodzą z wielu gałęzi medycyny min. patologii, radiologii, epidemiologii. Przy opracowaniu serwisu „E-sutek" wykorzystano nową technikę edukacyjną, jaką jest e-nauczanie. Witryna jest adresowana nie tylko do studentów medycyny i nauk przyrodniczych, a także do wszystkich innych zainteresowanych profilaktyką i leczeniem schorzeń piersi.

Resuscytacja jest dynamicznie rozwijającą się dziedziną medycyny. Aktualnie poszukiwane są coraz lepsze i gwarantujące większą dostępność do odbiorców techniki edukacyjne. Jedną z nich jest e-learning, czyli edukacja za pośrednictwem nowoczesnych mediów, między innymi komputerów, Internetu czy telefonii komórkowej.

W niniejszej pracy przedstawiamy prototyp sieciowego systemu umożliwiającego prowadzenie bezpiecznych i poufnych telekonsultacji kardiologicznych. Zaletą tego systemu jest możliwość kontroli stanu pacjenta niezależnie od miejsca jego przebywania. Ponieważ lekarz nie może ustalać rozpoznania nie widząc i nie badając pacjenta, dlatego nasz system służy jedynie do monitorowania stanu pacjenta z już ustalonym rozpoznaniem i leczeniem. Jako zastosowanie takiego systemu wybrano monitorowanie leczenia przeciwkrzepliwego. Podstawową informację przekazywaną lekarzowi jest tzw. wskaźnik INR (Czas protrombinowy), który jest miarą skuteczności leczenia. (Pacjent jest zobligowany do regularnego oznaczania INR w laboratorium). Na jego podstawie lekarz modyfikuje dawkowanie. Komunikacja pomiędzy lekarzem i pacjentem dokonuje się przez medyczny serwer w sieci Internet. Każda ze stron posiada parę kluczy kryptograficznych. Pacjent na przypisanym sobie terminalu wypełnia formularz, który zawiera pytania stawiane pacjentowi w czasie wywiadu lekarskiego (tutaj będzie to wskaźnik INR oraz informacje dodatkowe). Lekarz odbiera wprowadzone informacje od pacjenta i wpisuje pod nimi swoje wnioski, które podpisuje elektronicznie i przesyła pacjentowi. Pacjent i lekarz posiadają certyfikaty podpisane przez niezależne centrum autoryzacji, które umożliwiają dostęp na specjalnie do tego celu dedykowany serwer z określonym przydziałem ról (pacjenci lub lekarze). Zdobyte przez nas doświadczenie może być wykorzystane przy realizacji koncepcji e-recepty (elektroniczne recepty). Nasza prezentacja ma na celu przedstawienie możliwości technicznych i prawnych bezpiecznego monitorowania stanu pacjenta w kardiologii.

A prototype of a web-based system enabling secure confidential teleconsultation in cardiology is presented. Advantage of our system is the possibility to control the patient's state regardless of his or her current location. Since the visual contact of doctors with patients is necessary to make a diagnosis, our system is ocused on monitoring patient's state on condition of earlier recognised diagnosis. Anticoagulant treatment has been selected as the field of application of our system. The basic information transmitted to the physician is the INR value (prothrombin time), which estimates treatment efficiency. (A patient is obliged to test INR regularly in a laboratory). On the basis of INR, the physician is able to modify patient's drug dosage. Communication between physician and patient is implemented through a medical server connected to the Internet. Each pair-pair. The patient fills out a form on his computer, which contains questions to be asked to the patient during the anamnesis (in our case it is INR and additional information). The physician receives information from patient, adds his findings, puts the digital signature and sends everything back to the patient. Both the patient and the physician are equipped with digital certificates verified by an independent certification authority, which enables access to a dedicated medical server with identified roles of the participants (patient, physician). Experience gained may be useful in accomplishment of the eprescription project. The goal of our presentation is to show the technical and legal significance of secure monitoring of patient's state in cardiology.

W referacie przedstawiono model matematyczny regulacji wymiany gazowej tlenu w procesie oddychania człowieka. Doprowadzenie tlenu do komórek odbywa się zgodnie z gradientem ciśnienia cząstkowego, a jego regulacja następuje poprzez zmiany wentylacji. Wymiana gazowa opisana została za pomocą układu równań różniczkowych (równań dyfuzji tlenu). Ze względu na złożoność badanego systemu model pomija wpływ innych procesów fizjologicznych w organizmie na oddychanie. Przyjęto również szereg założeń, co pozwoliło uprościć równania modelu. Wprowadzone ograniczenia nie spowodowały znacznych odchyleń wielkości wyjściowych od stanów fizjologicznych. Przeprowadzone eksperymenty symulacyjne potwierdzają poprawność działania w określonych przedziałach zmienności parametrów. Poprzez analogię można zbudować modele wymiany gazowej dwutlenku węgla czy też np. stężenia jonów wodorowych pH.

This paper presents a mathematical model of an oxygen gas exchange regulation in the process of human respiration. Leading the oxygen to cells is held in accordance with a partial pressure gradient and its regulation follows across the changes of ventilation. The gas exchange was described thanks to arrangement of differential comparisons (oxygen diffusion comparisons). Because of the complexity of the investigated system the model does not account for influence of other physiological processes in organism respiration. Moreover, a range of assumptions were taken to permit the model arrangements simplifying. Such applied limitations did not cause any considerable deviations on the initial quantities from physiological states. The correctness of operations in definite sections of parameters variability was confirmed by undertaken simulation experiments. There may be other gas exchange models analogically created as e.g. carbon dioxide or hydrogen pH ion concentration.
