What can teachers learn from their student's homework

Homework as a didactic tool is highly useful for students because it makes them practice the acquired knowledge. Simultaneously, it provides the teachers a feedback how the students can understand discussed problems. In case a homework is processed and evaluated electronically, more data can be collected which gives the teacher wider spectrum of information. Solving problems in automated systems usually bring s the possibility of gaining the data attached to the solution process itself, which - when evaluated - brings information about this process. Such features give the teachers valuable information about students’ understanding the lecture topic, provide them with feedback information about laboriousness of a particular homework or test and its most time-consuming problems and tasks. They facilitate differentiation between the various reasons for failure of individual students, help to reveal the critical moments and the most difficult ideas of the task (for students) and thus enable teachers to arrive at conclusions which can help them to form the next steps in the teaching process. In this paper we present a wide range of information obtained from the data stored in one such system.

Zadania domowe odgrywaj ą niezwykle istotną rolę w procesie dydaktycznym, umożliwiając zrozumienie i ugruntowanie wykładanego materiału. Jenocześnie, dostarczają informacji wykładowcom, w jakim stopniu materiał przedstawiany na wykładach jest przyswajany przez studentów. W przypadku nauczania za pomocą środowiska zdalnego nauczania, jakim jest np. system GeoTest, można nie tylko zadawać poszczególne problemy do rozwiązania, ale też dokonywać analizy wielu parametrów związanych z procesem rozwiazywania zadań . Autorzy niniejszego projektu, nie tylko przygotowali zestaw zadań w systemie GeoTest z zakresu geometrii dwuwymiarowej, jak również rzutów Monge’a, ale także dokonali analizy matematycznej i statystycznej otrzymanych wyników pod kątem różnorodnych parametrów, a to: stopnia trudności poszczególnych zadań, czasu rozwiązywania, pory dnia w jakiej najchętniej studenci przystępują do zadań, itd. Analiza taka daje cenne informacje zwrotne dla wykładowcy i pozwala na rozwijanie kolejnych etapów przygotowania ulepszonego systemu testów. W niniejszej pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań przeprowadzonych w Uniwersytecie Karola w Pradze (Republika Czeska).

Using geogebra applets for homework assignments

Elementary geometry problems referring to the plane are difficult for many students. One of the reasons for this fact is that the process of solving and evaluating such tasks is very much time consuming. Besides, evaluation of the tasks is highly complicated. In consequence, the students do not resolve as many problems as it is necessary to make them gain sufficient experience. Automatic evaluation of such tasks would speed up the evaluation process a lot. However, due to the complexity of the problems it is difficult to find a proper automated, or computer, system which might be used for this purpose. In this article we will describe a newly developed online system used by the authors and other teachers for the plane tasks evaluation. The students solve assigned tasks in GeoGebra applets embedded in web pages and submit answers to a server where they are automatically evaluated. The system has now been used at all levels of school education, starting from the high school teaching and ending up on university studies.

Elementarne zadania geometryczne na płaszczyźnie stwarzają trudności wielu studentom. Jednym z powodów jest fakt, że proces rozwiązywania i oceny tego typu zadań jest czasochłonny, a sama ocena jest dość skomplikowana. W związku z tym uczniowie nie rozwiążą tyle problemów, by zdobyć wystarczające doświadczenie. Automatyczna ocena tego rodzaju zadań jest w stanie przyspieszyć ten proces, ale ze względu na jego złożoność dotychczas było to poza możliwościami znanych systemów. W artykule opisujemy nowy, system internetowy. Uczniowie rozwiązują zadania w apletach GeoGebry osadzonych na stronach internetowych i składają odpowiedź na serwerze. Program znajdujący się na serwerze ocenia je natychmiast. System jest obecnie stosowany na wszystkich poziomach nauczania, od szkoły podstawowej poprzez liceum do uniwersytetu.

Development of spatial abilities by means of didactic computer games

Students of engineering are expected to have a good spatial imagination, which is essential for their work. Most people have to deal with some kind of 3D environment as well. But how can they get familiar with an abstract 3D space? A spatial imagination is not easy to gain, students have a lot of troubles with it and the situation seems to be getting worse. It seems clear that we need more methods how to improve and develop the abilities. The aim of this paper is to show four didactic games and aids for teachers. Each of them offers a program, the background for solving problems and a set of tasks for children or students from 10 to 20 years. We offer teachers a didactic material and mention some experience with using this software at grammar school.

Studenci dyscyplin technicznych potrzebują do swojej pracy dobrą wyobraźnię przestrzenną. Mimo, że ludzie żyją i pracują w przestrzeni trójwymiarowej, to studenci mają kłopoty z wyobraźnią przestrzenną abstrakcyjnej przestrzeni trójwymiarowej i sytuacja wydaje się z roku na rok gorsza. Potrzebujemy zatem więcej metod dla rozwoju i przećwiczenia powyższych zdolności. Celem tego artykułu jest przedstawienie czterech gier dydaktycznych i pomocy naukowych dla nauczycieli. Każda z nich oferuje program – ramy rozwiązywania problemów – i zbiór ćwiczeń dla dzieci lub studentów w wieku od 10 do 20 lat. Oferujemy nauczycielom materiał dydaktyczny i przedstawiamy doświadczenia z używaniem opisanych programów w szkole średniej.
