Thermal modeling in frequency domain and experiments using IR thermography are performed to evaluate RMS current in electrical power lines. The model implements interface thermal resistance between the metal core and insulation layer. This allowed matching the results of simulations and

measurements with acceptable accuracy. The proposed method requires the use of known values of heat transfer coefficient and thermal parameters of the cable and its insulation. In consequence the proposed method requires calibration.
