Content available remote The variability of protein structure with respect to the hydrophobic core

The application of the fuzzy oil drop model to the analysis of protein structure is shown using two proteins. The selection of these two examples is due to their opposite character. Two proteins were selected representing very high order and very high disorder with respect to the organized uni-central hydrophobic core in proteins (one centrally localized concentration of high hydrophobicity). These two cases are to show examples of the large spectrum of variability of local organization of the hydrophobic core in proteins. The importance of the observation presented in this paper is significant with respect to large sets of proteins discussed in separate publications.

The cluster analysis is applied to the analysis of the data describing the status of protein structure in respect to hydrophobic core characteristics. The analysis revealed presence of two clusters distinguishing the proteins accordant with the “fuzzy oil drop” model and those which appear as discordant in respect to this model. The analysis was performed separately for chains treated as structural unit and for units defined according to IV-order (taking the functional protein complex). The characteristics of these two classification system appeared to differ in respect to number of proteins belonging to each of two clusters as well as relation between them.

The divergence entropy: O/T and O/R measuring the distance between observed/theoretical and observed/random distributions was applied to identify the category of protein structures in respect to the hydrophobic core in protein molecules. The naive interpretation was applied treating the proteins of O/T < O/R as the molecules of hydrophobic core accordant with the theoretically assumed. The proteins of O/T > O/R are treated as representing the hydrophobic core not accordant with the assumed one. The large scale computing was performed (PDB data set) to reveal whether other than simple inequality relation should be used for this identification. The cluster analysis was applied to identify the relation O/T versus O/R as the discrimination factor to classify the category of proteins in respect to their structural form of hydrophobic core.

The aim of this paper is to present the influence of information technologies (IT) on the organization structure, particularly in the context of virtual organizations’ (VO) development. The work describes examples and new models of virtual organizations. Subject connected with this type of organization is comparatively young and has appeared in the Internet era. Thanks to the development of communication technology enterprises can function in more elastic and competitive way: in innovative virtual forms. This new type of organizations will enlarge their market share. There are possibilities to reduce costs and be more competitive in the same time. Electronic and computer systems make the fundaments of the virtual organization management. Main activities of such organization are: information flow control, planning, production, service, distribution of products, and promotion. In the global economy virtual projects can be perceived as an optimal model of the organization activity. The new organizations are aiming to reinforce their competitive position, as well as to increase the profitability; they have also to take care of the smallest project details, the exact control of costs and optimisation of schedules. Virtual projects and organizations are still not well recognized. New researches should be taken up in this field.

Wzajemne związki i zależności między produktywnością a zdolnością innowacyjną znajdują się w centrum uwagi zarządów przedsiębiorstw i wielu instytucji, ale również są przedmiotem badań stosowanych i prac rozwojowych. W referacie pokazano znaczenie różnych synergicznych działań, sprzyjających tworzeniu nowych rozwiązań produktowych, procesowych i systemowo-organizacyjnych. W szczególności są to szkolenia zawodowe kadry technicznej przemysłu, prowadzone przez doświadczonych projektantów nowych zaawansowanych technologii. Zaprezentowano także systemowe podejście do procesów szkoleniowych, jako elementów działań spójnych z procesami produkcji i z implementacją rozwiązań innowacyjnych.

The mutual relationships and dependence between productiveness and innovative ability are in the centre of attention of boards enterprises and many institutions; they are also the object of applied research and developmental work. The aim of this paper is to present the meaning of different synergic activities favourable to creating new product, process and system-organizational solutions. Vocational trainings of professionals from technical industry, led by experienced designers of advanced technologies were described. A system approach towards training processes was presented; training process was discussed as an element of activities coherent with processes of production and the implementation of innovative solutions.
