Identification of potential incompatibilities is, along with supervision of the documents, staff competence, efficient management of resources, a necessary condition to obtain good results of the quality management of medical services. The aim of the study was to recognize opinion of randomly selected nurses employed in health care in Malopolska about potential incompatibilities in medical services and the determinants that affect the quality of nursing care. The additional aim was to identify the basic criteria that should be taken into account in formulating the correct tool to methodically identify and prevent incompatibilities in nursing care - as an important element in shaping the quality of medical services.

The present article is an attempt to put forward multitude of comprehensive solution, systematize legal condition and to point at the possibilities of using concrete systems. The publication deals with two most important and at the same time complementing one another issues, namely quality and safety. Due to the highest interest of the service improvement in Health Care, it is very important to define the quality of medical service. The definition of the best quality in Health Service is crucial because it is the subjective opinion of diffrent groups od interests. As far as medical business is concerned, there are patients, employees, payers and local goverment interested in changes.

A growing interest in the quality matter has been seen in Polish hospitals lately, especially according to ISO 9001:2000 criteria. In view of the nature of the standard i.e. the lack of consideration of the characteristics of the trade as well as the absence of the proceedings standards in respect to interpretation of the particular points of the standard with-in the medical services, some additional problems in the process of adaptation to the presented criteria can be expected in the hospitals. Apart from the typical barriers, some further difficulties related to me large limitations of the possessed resources can occur in the process of implementation of quality management systems, along with the problems of collision of the modern management and the outdated approach to the medical services.
