Time Domain Measurement Representation in Computer System Diagnostics and Performance Analysis

Time analysis is a common approach for testing and detecting methods for the performance analysis of computer systems. In the article it is shown, that measuring and identifying performances based on a benchmark is not sufficient for the proper analysis of the computer systems behavior. The response time of the process is often composed of the execution of many subprocesses or many paths of execution. Under this assumption, it is presented, that both convolution and deconvolution methods can be helpful in obtaining time distributions and modeling of complex processes. In such a modeling the analysis of measurement errors is very important and was taken into consideration. The example of using the methods in buffering process is also discussed.

W artykule opisano zagadnienia występujące przy stosowaniu kompresji danych w systemie multimedialnym i dokonano wprowadzenia w tę tematykę. Przedstawiono powody stosowania kompresji i wymagania , jakie stawia się jej ze względu na występujące usługi i rodzaje danych. Zanalizowano cele kompresji i czynniki wpływające na dobór metod kompresji. Określono miejsce i zadania kompresji w komputerowym systemie rozproszonym o zadanych wymaganiach.

In this paper the dependences that apper while applying data compression in multimedia computer system were described. An introduction to the problems has been made. The reasons of applying compression and requiremements concerning existing services and data types were presented. The purposes of compression and the factors that influence the choice of compression methods were studied. Application areas and goals of compression in distributed computer system were addressed.
