In the paper, results of stress-rupture test applied to MAR-M-509 cobalt alloy specimens, in as-cast condition and with microstructure shaped under rapid solidification conditions are presented. The material for the study were castings of MAR-M509 alloy obtained by means of the investment casting method. The rapid solidification conditions were obtained by means of remelting process carried out with the use of GTAW method. The effect of rapid solidification following the remelting process is a refinement of microstructure in castings of MAR-M509 alloy and significant extension of the time to rupture in stress-rupture test.

The paper summarises results of measurements of remelting area geometry, thermal efficiency and melting efficiency characterising the surface remelting process applied to castings of MAR-M-509 cobalt alloy. The remelting process was carried out with the use of GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) method in protective atmosphere of helium, at the electric current intensity in the range from 100 A to 300 A, and the electric arc scanning velocity vs in the range from 200 mm/min to 800 mm/min. The effect of current intensity and electric arc scanning velocity on geometrical parameters of remeltings, thermal efficiency, and melting efficiency characterising the remelting process has been determined.

This study presents results of stress rupture test of MAR-M-509 cobalt alloy samples, as-cast and after surface refining with a concentrated stream of heat. Tests were conducted on samples of MAR-M-509 alloy castings, obtained using the lost-wax method. Casting structure refining was performed with the GTAW method in argon atmosphere, using the current I = 200 A and electrical arc scanning velocity vs = 100, 150, 200 and 250 mm/min. The effect of rapid resolidification of the MAR-M-509 alloy on the microstructure was examined and significant improvement in stress rupture test was observed.

The paper presents results of examination of unalloyed cast iron with diversified structure of the metallic matrix carried out by means of the scratch method. The research work was carried out with cast sample plates and with castings superficially remelted by means of the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) method. The test was carried out with load force of 5 N. Parameters such as the coefficient of friction, penetration depth, and acoustic emission were analysed.

The influence of sliding speed and contact load on wear-resistance of cast iron in the unhardened state (cast without heat treatment) and in the state after surface hardening by electroarc plasma (GTAW method) is investigated. This method provides formation of composite hardening structure in the process of fast crystallization. It is shown, that during friction of hardened cast iron the contribution of mechanical-thermal hardening with simultaneous development of relaxation processes prevails over mechanical peening. It provides high level and stability of wear-resistance.

EN
This study presents test results of high-cycle (N>2⋅107) fatigue bending strength of MAR-M-509 cobalt alloy samples, as cast and after surface refining with a concentrated stream of heat. Tests were conducted on samples of MAR-M59 alloy casts, obtained using the lostwax method. Cast structure refining was performed with the GTAW method in argon atmosphere, using the current I = 200 A and electrical arc scanning velocity vs = 250 mm/min. The effect of rapid crystallization occurring after the fusion process is refinement of the MAR-M509 alloy cast microstructure and significant improvement in bending fatigue strength.

EN
The paper presents the result of fracture analysis in MAR-M509 samples after high-cycle bending fatigue strength tests. Microstructural tests were carried out with a scanning electron microscope. To identify carbide phases a quantitative analysis of the chemical composition was made. The fracture surface and the surface in a plane perpendicular to the fracture surface were observed. It was discovered that the crack initiation and propagation occurs on carbide separations.

This study presents the results of testing the shape index, number of graphite precipitations, and longitudinal ultrasound wave velocity with wedge castings used for production of samples for the assessment of mechanical characteristics. To differentiate values of the parameters, the castings were made at the same time as the production castings. The data obtained were used to establish the relationship between the ultrasonic wave velocity cL, the shape index SS and the number of graphite precipitation NA.

This work presents the results of ultrasonic evaluation of the microstructure of spheroidal cast iron manufactured under production conditions at the foundry of Metal Odlew Sp.J. Evaluation of ultrasonic control index sensitiveness to changes of graphite shape index Ss of spheroidal cast iron (type 500-7), utilized modelled stepped castings. The relationship was determined between the shape index of graphite precipitation Ss and the velocity of longitudinal ultrasonic wave cL.

This work presents results of ultrasonic evaluation of the microstructure of spheroidal cast iron manufactured under production conditions. Evaluation of the ultrasonic control index's sensitiveness to changes in microstructure (graphite shape index Ss and average number of graphite precipitations NA) of cast iron, was made on modelled stepped castings. A relation between the graphite precipitation shape index Ss and the velocity of longitudinal ultrasonic wave cL has been defined, as well as a relation between the average number of graphite precipitations NA and the velocity of longitudinal ultrasonic wave cL.

In this study surface fusion by the GTAW (in argon atmosphere) surfacing process on plate of cast iron with electric arc advance speeds from 200 to 800 mm/min and current range I=300A were performed. The geometry, microstructure, hardness, friction wear intensity were measured. A stepwise regression method was used to develop relationships between the electric arc advance speed, parameters of fusion geometry, microhardness and friction wear intensity.

The influence of modes of surface fusion by electric arc plasma (GTAW method) on the hardness and wear-resistance of plain cast iron was studied. A possible mechanism of structural rearrangement in the processed material during the friction was analyzed. This mechanism is determined by specific behaviour of hardened martensitic structure under dynamic load. This martensitic structure forms a metal basis of cementite eutectic under conditions of fast crystallisation.

This work presents results of ultrasonic evaluation of mechanical properties of spheroidal cast iron manufactured under the production conditions of FA JAFAR S.A.. Tests were conducted on wedge casts which were used as samples for tensile strength tests, a map of distribution of longitudinal ultrasound wave velocity was determined for the cast wedges. The tensile strength tests were conducted and values of longitudinal ultrasound wave velocity were determined in the place where the sample was broken. Relations between the tensile strength and the velocity of longitudinal ultrasonic wave cL were determined.

The study presents the influence of time on cast iron spheroidisation, modification of the magnesium content in the alloy, and the influence of the magnesium content on the shape and number of graphite precipitations. For one particular set of production conditions, it was observed that 17 minutes after completing the modification and spheroidisation procedure, the magnesium content had decreased from 0.070% to 0.040%. This resulted in a decrease in the graphite precipitation shape index Ss from 0.081 to 0.067, as well as a decrease in the average number of graphite precipitations NA from 568 mm-2 to 305 mm-2.
