W artykule przedstawiono wybrane narzędzia szczupłego zarządzania, które zrewolucjonizowało produkcję seryjną i masową. Szczupłe zarządzanie, częściej nazywane lean managementem, w przemyśle odlewniczym, poza odlewniami produkującymi na potrzeby przemysłu motoryzacyjnego, jest to mało znany system zarządzania. Artykuł ten ma na celu przybliżenie czytelnikom fundamentów tego systemu na podstawie przykładów z wdrażania go w jednostkowej produkcji odlewów.

The selected tools of the lean management, which revolutionised the serialised and mass production, are presented in the paper. This lean management, apart from foundry plants producing for the needs of automotive industry, is a hardly known management system. The paper aims to provide readers with principles of this system on the basis of examples of its implementation in the single piece production.

Praca elektrowni pompowych przynosi duże korzyści wynikające z ich funkcji regulacyjno-interwencyjnych w systemie. Dokładne zaplanowanie pracy programowej umożliwia utrzymanie w zbiornikach tych elektrowni odpowiednich rezerw energii. W artykule przedstawiono algorytm wykorzystujący oprogramowanie dynamiczne oraz wyniki obliczeń optymalnych planów dobowej pracy przykładowej elektrowni pompowej.

In a power system, the operation of pumped-storage plants leads to dynamic benefits resulting from their power reserve. Exact pumped-storage plants operation planning makes possible to keep suitable reserves of energy in reservoirs of these power stations. In the paper, the calculation algorithm and computation results utilizing dynamic programming to optimize daily loads of pumped-storage plants on programmable schedules have been described.

In the last years, data preprocessing plays more and more important role in the knowledge discovery processing. One of the preprocessing methods is discretization of continous-valued attributes. Beside simple unsupervised (class-blind) discretization methods, many of new advanced discretization methods based on information theory, statistics, bayesian networks, rough sets etc. were introduced. This paper describes the discretization methods based on the methodology of decision-tree induction. It presents the results of exploring and comparing several discretization algorithms. The main quality criterion was assumed to be the quality of knowledge generated by the whole knowledge discovery process.
