This study presents the research results of the influence that barbotage refining on the mechanical properties of high pressure die casting made of AlSi12S alloy. The operation of refining was conducted in a melting furnace, with the use of an FDU Mini Degasser. Mechanical properties (UTS, YS, Elongation, Brinell Hardness) were assessed on the samples taken from high pressure die castings. The influence of transferring molten metal and the influence of time of keeping molten metal undergoing the refining process on the alloy mechanical properties.

This study analyses factors that influence the durability of pressure moulds. Materials for pressure moulds are also characterized here, as well as methods of refining moulds by applying coats which create a thermal and anti-erosion barrier.

This study presents research results of the influence that refining and transfer of AlSi12S alloy on the porosity of high pressure die-castings. Tests were conducted under production conditions of Die-casting Foundry META-ZEL Sp z o.o. The operation of refining was conducted in a melting furnace, with the use of an FDU Mini Degasser. Decay of the refining effect was assessed by evaluating the porosity content and metallographic examination.

This study presents the research results of the durability of coating (thermal and anti-erosion barrier) of a mincer cap casting pressure mould. Tests were conducted with the use of an IDRA OL320 pressure machine. Durability of the mould with TiN coating applied by PVD was analyzed. The geometrical structure of the mould surface was assessed. It was found that the surface roughness and precipitations of metallurgical origin in the mould material, as well as the surface roughness of the coating do not influence the barrier lifespan as much as microcracks on the mould surface do.
