Artykuł zaznacza problematykę zabezpieczenia wykopów w terenach zurbanizowanych, opisując kilka najpopularniejszych zadań stojących przed projektantami oraz wykonawcami głębokich wykopów.

This article identifies the issues of shoring trenches and earthworks in urban areas, and describes several of the most common challenges which face designers and contractors involved in deep excavations. These include, among others, the close proximity of existing buildings. These buildings may have a signifi cant impact on the type of shoring planned for an excavation at a new investment site and vice versa. The task of assessing the impact of planned works on neighbouring buildings is highly complex, as many relevant factors must be taken into account regarding the expected behaviour of the construction and the subsoil, requiring considerable knowledge and experience on the part of the designer.

Autorzy prezentują zmodyfikowane podejście do metody Poulosa w projektowaniu wzmocnienia podłoża gruntowego kolumnami betonowymi. W artykule przedstawione zostały różnice w podejściu projektowym pomiędzy palami oraz kolumnami, sposób postępowania przy doborze kolumn betonowych, a także przykład obliczeniowy pokazujący prezentowaną metodę w praktyce.

The article presents modified Poulos’ method of designing weak soils improvement with concrete columns. The differences in designing procedure between piles and columns is shown as well as step by step instruction how to choose suitable concrete columns. The article includes also a calculation example showing the proposed method in practice.
