The study of building construction method and structural details, such as foundations and other related sub structure elements, has a great importance in the interpretation of the building construction methods and details during investigation. Substructure design was also an important consideration for ancient builders to control the underground water movement and to make their structure withstand the lateral forces. With the accumulation of knowledge from previous cultures, ancient building masters were able to empirically size and design a foundation system through; designing an effective underground drainage system, providing seismic joints and changing the natural frequency of soil.The study of ancient substructure design methods through reviewing archaeological and history of architecture publications, discussions with archaeologists and experiences met during diagnosis phase of restoration works can contribute to diagnosis of historical buildings before any intervention design considerations.

Badanie metod konstrukcji budynku i detali konstrukcyjnych takich jak fundamenty i inne elementy związane z podłożem wielkie znaczenie dla interpretacji metod konstrukcji budynku i detali konstrukcyjnych na etapie oceny budynku. Projekt podbudowy by. również ważny dla starożytnych budowniczych do celów kontrolowania ruchu wody podziemnej i zabezpieczania konstrukcji przed działaniem sił poprzecznych.
