The paper deals with practical use of CAD and GIS systems as modern tools to collect and, process geographic digital data and with visual environment of graphic studies of all kind constituting an integral part of spatial planning conducted in the Urban Planning Office of Cracow Municipality. The first part presents specific functioning of the Urban Planning Office and its structure. However, the author focused on characteristics of data resources and on GIS and CAD systems used in the Office. In the second part of the paper, applications of CAD and GIS systems developed in the Section of Spatial Information Systems of the Office are presented.
