Modification properties of polyelectrolytes and polyelectrolyte complexes (mixtures of polycation and polyanion) on different kinds of surfaces have been investigated in dispersion of particles or on different planar surfaces, like glass plates or wood. It was shown that the adsorption of polyelectrolytes on surfaces leads to a many applications in working fields like high solids, cationic modified particles, stable dispersions, and surfaces with well defined cationic/anionic charges or a certain hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance.

In the paper, the passive surface layers of AISI 304L after standard (EP50) and very-high-current density electropolishing (EP1000) in a mixture of orthophosphoric and sulfuric acids in a 1:4 ratio, are presented. The main finding of the presented studies is enrichment of the steel surface film in chromium: total chromium to total iron ratio was equal to 6.6 after EP50 and to 2.8 after EP1000; on the other hand, chromium compounds to iron compounds ratio was equal to 10.1 after EP50, and 3.9 after EP1000.

From the reaction of AgCl with Ph2PSiMe3 and PhP(SiMe3)2 in the presence of PrcPr3, it is possible to obtain the silver clusters (Ag24(PPh)lo(PPh2)4(PrcPr3)6] (1), which contains both phosphinidene and phosphido bridges, and the ionic cluster compounds (Ag2o(Ph)12Cl(PnPr3)lo)+(Ag24(PPh)10 Cl5(PnPr3)3]-(2). Both compounds were characterised by single crystal X-ray crystallography. Compound 1 crystallises in the space group P2ln with cell constants a =12.134(7) A, b = 22.194(6) A, c = 28.642(12) A, ß = 91.83(3)o, V = 10886(7) A3 (R = 0.059 for 14219 independent reflections). 2 crystallises in the space group P 1 with the cell constants a =19.03(3) Á, b = 33.711(4) A, c = 35.598(1) a = 97.40(2)(o),ß =103.47(2)o, r = 91.96(1)o, V = 21978(8) A(3)(R = 0.063 for 52833 independent reflections).
