Content available remote TOPSIS and fuzzy multi-objective model integration for supplier selection problem
EN
Purpose: The problem includes the three objective functions: minimizing the total cost, the net rejected items and the inverse total value of purchasing (TVP), while satisfying capacity and demand requirement constraints. Design/methodology/approach: The model is established for supplier selection problem and later the proposed single objective model is used to calculate the optimum order quantities among the selected suppliers. A numerical example is given to illustrate how the model is applied. Findings: In this article, we proposed a single objective function to solve the fuzzy multi-item multi-objective model in order to calculate the optimum order quantities to each supplier. Practical implications: Single objective function, which is able to consider the relative importance of the goals, is proposed to solve the model. A numerical example is given to illustrate how the model is applied. Originality/value: This approach is able to help the DM evaluate the suppliers in order to find out the appropriate order to each them, and allows purchasing manager(s) to manage supply chain performance on service, cost, quality and etc. the suppliers price breaks, which depend on the sizes of order quantities, affects the selection process.

Content available remote Influence of organisational culture on company performance
EN
Purpose: The lack of organizational effort to assess cultural compatibility or fit prior to the engagement of firms has contributed to the failure of several mergers and acquisition. A Korean public listed company with manufacturing plants in Malaysia and New Zealand found that the performances of the newly acquired plants were significantly lower than the manufacturing plants in Korea. Design/methodology/approach: In this study, the influence of national culture on organizational culture and the effect on the organizational performance was conducted on 6 manufacturing plants in Korea (2), Malaysia (3) and New Zealand (1). Hofstede's culture dimensions were used to determine culture diversity between the manufacturing plants. Findings: The values survey module was used to calculate the index scores on five dimensions of national value system as components of national cultures: power distance, Individualism, Masculinity, Uncertainty avoidance and Long term orientation. Practical implications: The model of culture fit assesses the dimensions of socio-cultural environment, internal work culture and HRM practices. The resulting multiple regression analysis showed that there are cultural diversities between the manufacturing plants and national culture does influence organizational performance. Originality/value: The results also showed that a dimension of internal work culture does influence organizational performance.

Content available remote Improvement of a Grey Based Method for supplier selection problem
EN
Purpose: In this article, we combine this new approach based on the concepts of Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) to evaluate and select the best supplier. Design/methodology/approach: Supplier evaluation is a Multi-Attribute Decision-Making (MADM) problem that is affected by quantitative and qualitative factors, some of which may conflict. Since most of the input information is not known accurately, selecting the right suppliers becomes more difficult. Grey theory is one of the new mathematical methods used to analyze systems with uncertain and incomplete information. Findings: Through this article, it is demonstrated that the improved method, which is used to solve the MADM problems for selecting the best supplier, is a good means of evaluation, and it appears to be more appropriate. Practical implications: Grey theory is a new mathematical field that is one of the methods used to study the uncertainty of a system. Originality/value: Through this article, it was demonstrated that the improved method, which is used to solve the MADM problems for selecting the best supplier, is a good means of evaluation, and it appears to be more appropriate.
