Sustainable regional development and peripherality and innovation in the conditions of globalization

Purpose: The main aim of the article is to characterize and analyze the issue of sustainable development in the regional dimension, with particular emphasis on peripherality and innovation as a context of modernization changes in the conditions of globalization. Design/methodology/approach: The article uses a method of analysis of literature in the field of regional studies, referring to the problems of regional development in the perspective of conditions and changes in the macroscale. The thematic scope of the article includes an analysis of the theoretical foundations of regional development, the issue of regional disparities and developmental distances, the characteristics of peripherality and innovation as phenomena determining opportunities and barriers to development in the conditions of the globalization process. Social implications: The impact of the characteristics and analysis contained in the article can mark itself in terms of the goals and directions of regional policies formulated and implemented by public authorities at different levels. It can contribute to increasing the awareness and scope of knowledge of the regional community, especially its decision-making circles, with regard to the main goals and directions of development at the regional level, taking into account the role of innovation in overcoming the state of peripherality and marginalization under the prevailing global development trends. Originality/value: The value of the article is based on a focused analysis of the issue of sustainable regional development and showing its determinants in a new perspective, determined by the phenomena of peripherality and innovation as a context of changes on a global scale. The characteristics and analyses of the issue in question contained in the article are part of the trend of regional studies oriented towards the search for ways to overcome interregional disparities and disparities in order to achieve regional balance and convergence.

Timely and accurate detection of land use/land cover (LULC) change is important for the macro and micro level sustainable development of any region. For this purpose, geospatial techniques are the best tool for change analysis as they supply timely, cheaper, precise and up to date information. This paper examines the spatial temporal change trend in LULC in the case of Central Haryana. Landsat 2, 3, 5, 7 and 8 images for the years 1975–2020 for pre and post monsoon periods were analyzed for the study. Radiometric correction was performed to derive better information. ArcGIS 10.2 and ENVI 5.3 are used for thematic layout and thematic change preparation. An unsupervised classification using ERDAS IMAGINE 2015 has also been done to classify study area in eight classes. The year 1975 is considered as the base year for change detection analysis. Results showed an increasing trend for the land use classes of built up, water body, and agricultural land without waterlogging in the pre and post monsoon periods between 1975 and 2020. Remaining land use classes of agriculture with waterlogging, open waterlogged area, vegetation and fallow land/sand dunes decreased during the same period. Increased human activities have changed the LULC in the region and have had a great impact on its sustainable regional development.

W artykule omówiono uwarunkowania lokalizacji centrum logistycznego w regionie radomskim, jako ważnego elementu doskonalącego system transportowy regionu i kraju. Centra logistyczne pozwalają na udoskonalenie dostaw towarów, zmniejszenie kosztów transportu i lepszą obsługę klienta. Do ich rozwoju potrzebny jest dobry dostęp do infrastruktury transportu, potencjał gospodarczy regionu i zasoby kadrowe. Zasadniczą i najważniejszą częścią artykułu były przeprowadzone pomiędzy październikiem 2015 roku a 30 stycznia 2016 roku badania ankietowe dotyczące zainteresowania miejscowych przedsiębiorców powołaniem w regionie radomskim centrum logistycznego (CL) z ośrodkiem w obrębie miasta Radom. Na ich podstawie sformułowano wnioski badawcze dotyczące celowości lokalizacji, wielkości, składowych i organizacji centrum logistycznego w regionie radomskim.

Paper discusses the conditions of the location of the logistic center in the Radom region as an important element improving the transport system of the region and the country. Logistic centers allow to refine supply of goods, reduce transportation costs and improve customer service. Their development requires good access to transport infrastructure, regional economic potential and human resources. The main and most important part of this article was conducted questionnaire surveys between October 2015 and January 30, 2016, concerning of interest local businessmen over the establishment of a logistic center in Radom region. Based on these studies have been formulated research conclusions concerning the desirability of the location, size, compositions and organization of the logistic center in the Radom region.

Analiza procesu rozwoju konsumpcji turystycznej wykazuje, że jego dynamika jest w znacznym stopniu zależna od dostępności komunikacyjnej, a podróże lotnicze stają się coraz powszechniejszym i atrakcyjniejszym sposobem przemieszczania. Autorzy zaprezentowali ewolucję procesu rozwoju turystyki z wykorzystaniem zróżnicowanych form transportu, dokonując analizy rozwoju światowego rynku turystycznego z wykorzystaniem różnych środków transportu. Przedstawiono rolę portów lotniczych jako istotnych stymulatorów rozwoju regionalnego. W końcowej części artykułu zaprezentowano trendy i kryteria wyboru formy usług turystycznych oraz metody i źródła możliwości obniżki kosztów podróży turystycznych.

Analysis of the tourism development process shows that its growth is largely dependent on the availability of transport. The air travel is becoming an increasingly widespread and attractive way totravel. The authors present the evolution of tourism development by identifying [alternative: by looking at different forms of transport and analysing developments in the global tourism market. The role of airports as major promoters of regional development is also included. The final part of the article presents the trends and the main criteria in choosing the tourism services and the methods andsources of cost reduction opportunities.

A well-organized transport system is an important factor affecting the functioning of the various sectors of the economy. A developed system of air transportation is very important in the era of regional integration, as a part of the process of intensifi cation of urban economic development. Yet the impact of its operation is not without signifi - cance on environmental degradation. The article presents the benefi ts and risks that are associated with increased levels of air traffi c and port activity. This material also entails a review of initiatives to reduce sources of negative impact of transport on the preservation of natural ecosystems and sheds light on the level of benefi ts derived from the impact of the airport on the environment. It focuses on the mechanism of division of EU aid funds and the development of small aircraft service networks as a more effective mechanism for improving the system of sustainable transport and environmental protection.
