The geosite Zygmuntówka (Sigismund ) quarry, located at Czerwona Góra near Chęciny in SW part of the Holy Cross Mountains, is the oldest and the most famous among the so-called Chęciny „marble” quarries which provided stones for constructing numerous important buildings in the region and beyond. Upper Permian conglomerates (Czerwona Góra Formation), with a thickness of several tens of metres, outcrop in this area. The conglomerates are clast- and locally mud-supported and consist of light grey and beige carbonate pebbles and cobbles chaotically distributed within the reddish-brown silty-carbonate-ferriferous matrix. The conglomerates represent continental alluvial fan deposits deposited under arid and semiarid climate conditions. The quarry, of a regional rank, is well suited for both geoeducation and geotourism purposes.

A hitherto unknown river type from the Archaean at Bhurkuli (Jharkhand, E India)

The Archaean granitoid pluton of the Singhbhum craton in E India is overlain by Archaean to Palaeoproterozoic metasediments. These sediments are still poorly known and their stratigraphy is under debate. Several scattered, most probably Meso- to Neoarchaean, conglomerates are present in the state of Jharkhand that differ so much in characteristics that they are probably not related to each other. The sedimentology of a series of conglomerate patches and layers near Bhurkuli has been investigated, including the characteristics of the clasts. It is deduced on the basis of these characteristics and the sedimentological context that the Bhurkuli conglomerates represent the channel facies of a river system that differed from the types of fluvial systems that exist nowadays.

W strefie lanckorońsko-żegocińskiej, w okolicy Skrzydlnej, w warstwach menilitowych plaszczowiny śląskiej występują zlepieńce z egzotykami. Wyniki badań wskazują, że zlepieńce te są olistostromami. Składają się one z fragmentów skał detrytycznych, gnejsów, kwarcytów oraz osadów węglanowych paleozoiku i mezozoiku. Występują również paleozoiczne, szelfowe wapienie detrytyczne zawierające duże otwornice, litotamnia i inne. Obecność tego typu olistostrom sugeruje, że były one formowane w sąsiedztwie aktywnego skłonu basenu śląskiego związanego z kordylierą śląską.

In the Lanckorona-Żegocina tectonic zone near Skrzydlna, in the Menilite beds of the Silesian nappe occur conglomerates with exotics. Result of the studies show that conglomerates are olistostromes. They are composed of fragments of siliciclastic rock, gneisses, quartz and carbonate rocks of Paleozoic and Mesozoic age. There are also Paleogene shelfdetritic limestone and sandstones containing large foraminifers, lithothamnia and other organic remnants. The presence of the olistostroms of such a composition indicates that they were formed in the vicinity of the active slope of the Silesian Basin connected with the Silesian Ridge (=Silesian Cordillera).
