An engineering approach to corrosion resistance prediction of side surface sheets of steel tanks for liquid fuels has been proposed. Authors suggest using for evaluation values of real plate thickness, obtained during a routine assessment of tank technical condition. The random variability of the thickness has to be taken into account. Reliability function seems to be the best safety measure, provided that Rayleigh probability distribution is applied. All design parameters can be adopted basing on the analysis of hazard function, which is compared to empirical corrosion rate diagram.
