The aim of this article is to describe the 5-S methodology and 5-S audit as a tool for improving it. Sort, set in order, shine, standardize, sustain - this is what 5-S means. The main rule of 5-S says: there is a place for everything, and everything in its place - clean and ready for use. The advantages of 5-S are numerous - 5-S helps to reduce waste, to reduce wasted searching time, to improve quality and safety, to establish discipline. 5-S gives companies a competitive edge. Implementing 5-S doesn't cost a lot. In the second pant of this article the 5-S audit is described and results of 5-S audits are presented in a particular company. Although 5-S is not a complicated method, the results of audits show that there is still a lot to do. The weakness point is not taking into consideration the latest auditor recommendations.
