Biotechnological processes are widely used in environmental engineering. However, a common problem associated with the biological method relating to the removal of certain pollutants from the environment is low solubility in water, which significantly limits the possibility of their biodegradation or washing. Therefore, a growing interest in the application of surfactants, for instance, for the remediation of soil, is observed. Surfactants can significantly influence the removal of pollutants from the environment. Not only do they increase the solubility of hydrophobic compounds, but also aid in their leaching and increase their bioavailability. Moreover, the use of surfactants by leaching of pollutants is relatively cheap compared to the extraction with organic solvents. As in the case of bioremediation of soil, the use of surfactants could potentially affect the growth of the removal efficiency of hydrophobic pollutants from combustion gases by increasing their bioavailability. This paper presents the results of preliminary laboratory studies using β cyclodextrin in purifying of air contaminated by toluene vapors by biofiltration. In the assumed concentrations (1, 2, 3 g/dm3) the positive effect of cyclodextrin on toluene biofiltration was not observed.

Na podstawie doświadczeń praktycznych wynikających z zakresu kompetencji inspektora w zakresie kontroli wykonawstwa robót przeciwkorozyjnych przy użyciu powłok organicznych i nieorganicznych przedstawiono jedną z inspekcji kontrolnych dotyczącą oceny zatłuszczeń powierzchni przed aplikacją powłok. Publikacja opisuje czynności związane z oceną zanieczyszczeń woskowych na powierzchni powłok malarskich pylonów o wysokości 70 metrów mostu nad rzeką Wisłą w Płocku w roku 2005. Zwrócono uwagę na dużą odpowiedzialność inspektora nadzoru, wymaganą wiedzę, doświadczenie zawodowe oraz konieczność posiadania specjalistycznego przeszkolenia wysokościowego do prawidłowego wykonania powierzonych zadań. Based on the practical experience derived from an inspector's scope of competence in terms of monitoring the execution of anticorrosion works with the use of organic and inorganic coatings, the proceedings of one such inspection covering the assessment of surface contamination prior to coating application has been presented. The paper provides an overview of activities involved in assessing the wax contamination present on the surface of coatings applied on the 70 meter high pylons of a bridge overlooking the Vistula river in Płock in 2005. Attention has been drawn to the high responsibility of a coating inspector, the required knowledge, professional experience as well as the need for proper altitude training required to duly complete the delegated tasks.
