In the article presented are the hazards related to the usage in coal mining of polyurethane and urea-formaldehyde binders and foams. Discussed are the results of research work on self-heating of polyurethane binders in the course of "latticing" of the material and the effect the phenomenon has on the temperature of coal remaining in contact with the results of flammability and thermo-oxidation decay tests conducted for the polyurethane and urea-formaldehyde materials (binders and foams) in the aspects of fire an toxicological hazards.

W artykule omówiono zagadnienie rozkładu termooksydacyjnego stosowanych w górnictwie pianek i spoiw, otrzymywanych w oparciu o żywice mocznikowo-formaldehydowe i poliuretany, w aspekcie tworzenia się toksycznych produktów gazowych mogących stanowić zagrożenie zdrowia i życia górników. Podano literaturowe przykłady badań produktów spalania tego rodzaju materiałów. Przedstawione zostały badania wybranych pianek i spoiw stosowanych w polskim górnictwie węglowym.

The problem of the thermo-oxidizing decomposition of foams and binders used in mining, produced basing on urea-formaldehyde resins and polyurethanes, in the aspect of toxic gas products formation which could be a threat to health and life of miners. Literature examples of research on this kind materials burning products are given. Testing of selected foams and binders used in Polish coal mining are presented. In the products of their decomposition at different temperatures, determined on the basis of thermal analysis carried out by means of the derivatograph, the presence of toxic carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, hydrogen chloride and aniline have been stated in quantities, which can present a toxicological hazard in case of fire with the participation of the discussed materials.
